What did we learn about Duffee and King Mo?
Absolutely nothing. I may be exaggerating a little bit, but this weekend provided American viewers a look at two large (physically) blue-chip prospects in MMA and little was gained. Zak said it best earlier today in regards the Maia/Marquardt fight:
As a fan there is nothing more exciting than a thirty second Blitzkrieg knockout. As a writer it kind of sucks because nothing happens other than a signal highlight.
King Mo and Duffee spent a combined 32 seconds fighting this weekend and while they have helped their popularity we did not learn much about the fighters. Arguably my favorite part about being a fan of any sport is watching and witnessing young talent. I am the individual who trades Jay Cutler (Bears fan) for 1st round picks in Madden and spends more time recruiting than playing the games in NCAA Football. I start my dynasty modes with the Louisiana Techs of the country and try to build up. So when I knew I was going to watch Duffee and King Mo this weekend I was ecstatic. Their performances might have made my friends happy, but I felt guilty about being disappointed. King Mo is a free agent and beat a fighter that 3-11 in his last 14 fights so he will have time to develop. Duffee on the other hand set an "official" UFC record, asked for the fast track, and has a huge hype train behind him. I expect him to get one more showcase fight before he gets truly tested. I hope he is ready for it because with the new depth within the UFC heavyweight division there is no need to rush him along. How good do you think Duffee and King Mo are, how good can they be, and what is the best course of action for both?
