Thales Leites finds a new home
MMA Fanhouse is reporting that Thales Leites has been signed by Canadian MMA promotion Maximum Fighting Championship.
Thales Leites will forever be known for his precipitous fall from UFC grace after a disastrous middleweight title fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 97. The fight was so bad that UFC president, Dana White, offered a public apology to UFC fans for the product that was on display that night. The fight was met with universal scorn and criticism for both fighters involved and the UFC. Leites followed that loss with another against Alessio Sakara at UFC 101. After UFC 101 Thales was unceremoniously dumped by Zuffa.
Things were not always so bad. Thales Leites was once a top UFC middleweight prospect racking up a 5-1 record in the UFC until the title fight against Anderson Silva.
Leites is still young, at 28 years old, so there is always the possibility of a redemption story. Still Thales has a long way to go before MMA fans forgive him for his UFC 97 performance.
