Gina Carano and Oscar winning director team up for "Knockout"
It looks like Gina Carano has come through the crucible of being exposed losing and has decided to become a Hollywood actress.
According to Variety.com Carano is set to team up with Steven Soderbergh for his new film, Knockout, a spy thriller.
Scripted by Lem Dobbs, "Knockout" casts Carano as a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who is given a second chance to use her skills for constructive purposes. The film is a closer cousin to "La Femme Nikita" and "Kill Bill" than "Million Dollar Baby," in that it doesn't take place in the fight ring. Rather, Soderbergh considers the film as a flat out action film in the James Bond mold, and will shoot in locations around the world that include Ireland, Turkey and the U.S.
For MMA fans who were hoping to see Carano keep her head down, train and build up some wins in order to avenge her loss to "Cyborg" Santos; this news comes as a disappointment. These fans can take solace in blaming baseball as Soderbergh's calendar opened up due to the film adaptation of the baseball book, Moneyball, dying.
This isn't the first time that Steven Soderbergh has taken a niche star and elevated them to staring actress. Recently Soderbergh tapped adult film star Sasha Grey (it's her IMDB profile, so SFW) for his film, The Girlfriend Experience.
Steven Soderbergh has directed such films as Erin Brockovich, Out of Sight, Che, The Ocean's Eleven series, Solaris and he won the Oscar for best director in 2000 for the film Traffic.
