Ironic quote of the day

UFC 100 garnered the most mainstream attention of any UFC event to date. Many old guys writers who were uncomfortable with MMA used the show as an opportunity to rail against the sport. They accused MMA of being "human dog-fighting" or made definitive claims like Bob Ryan who said, "The UFC will continue to grow until someone dies on national T.V. and that will be the end of that."

But will these same writers and media pundits react with such vitriol to what Carson Palmer said to Peter King,

"The truth of the matter is ... somebody is going to die here in the NFL. It's going to happen."

Kevin Everett and Willis McGahee probably agree with Palmer.

Will this statement create a media firestorm? Will writers and activists decry the brutal physical toll that football takes on its athletes? Probably not because our society accepts and loves the violence of football where as MMA being popular means that the Apocalypse is nigh.

Zak, the aforementioned sports journalist are freaking hypocrites because they are very familiar with the bone-crushing, concussion filled, debilitating and crippling history of professional football.
Some players go on field with minor concussions week after week become legendary heroes fueled by pain killers that will probably cause severe damage to their kidneys.
The shots that many football players take every week is may be equivalent to experiencing the shock of hits from a heavyweight boxer. Note, combat fighters compete every 2-3 months. Their bodies are allowed to heal and recuperate.

Read just about any autobiography from a former NFL great and they will reveal more about the brutal violence inflicted than I can begin to imagine.

Captain Caveman of KissingSuzyKolber had this great observation about football,

The NFL is crack. That’s why people don’t give a shit if someone dies on the field, Carson Palmer and Peter King. Because this shit is my lifeblood. You go out there and DIE, motherfuckers! Dance for your meal! DANCE!
