Urijah Faber is Back! Defeats Raphael Assuncao
Urijah Faber was fighting in his hometown of Sacramento and delivered a dominant victory for his hometown fans.
Faber was making his return to the WEC since breaking his hand in a losing effort to Mike Brown at WEC 41. It appeared that there was some ring rust early in the fight for Faber as Assuncao bottled up Urijah's early offense and may have done enough to capture the first round.
In the second and third rounds Faber was able to dust off the cobwebs dropping Raphael twice and almost submitting him in the second round. Urijah appeared to be on his way to an unanimous decision victory but was able to seal the fight with a rear-naked choke submission over Assuncao.
It was believed that the winner of this fight could fight for the WEC featherweight champion. Urijah mentioned the possibility of fighting newly-crowned champion Jose Aldo and the Versus broadcast crew conviently had the champion available to step in the cage to face off with Faber. It doesn't take a fortune teller to predict that these fighters will fight for the belt later this year.
