WEC 46 Live Gate
According to WEC management WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson drew 10,027 spectators for a live gate of $550,000.
MMA Fighting Stances points out that WEC 45, 44 and 42 combined to make $409,535 (there are no gate numbers available for WEC 43). WEC 46 alone pulled in $140,465 more money than the promotion's three previous events.
WEC 46 also drew an equal attendance to WEC 45, 44, 43 and 42. Those four events drew a total 10,844 spectators (figures after the jump).
What is the difference between WEC 46 and the previous four events? Urijah Faber and Sacramento.
The WEC's last trip to Sacramento was WEC 41, which was headlined by Sacramento native Urijah Faber. That event drew over 10,110 fans for a gate of $815,415.
While it is evident that Faber is a serious draw in Sacramento Jamie Varner pointed out that the WEC invests almost all their top promotional dollars into Faber creating a "chicken or the egg" situation. Is Faber's drawing power the result of Zuffa's promotional effort or is it due to his natural popularity?
