No Surprise, Dana White confirms Edgar vs. Penn
Dana White confirmed that Frankie Edgar will fight B.J. Penn for the UFC lightweight title.
For some time there were rumors that Edgar would fight Penn, even if Gray Maynard, who owns a victory over Frankie, won at UFC Fight Night 20. Maynard did win last night but was unimpressive as he defeated Diaz via split decision in a sloppy fight.
Maynard's performance solidified Edgar's candidacy as number one contender.
B.J. Penn previously posted a video stating that he would fight at UFC 112 and White echoed those statements.
The UFC president added that the tentative plan was for the title fight to happen in Abu Dhabi in April, but that the UFC 112 event in the Middle East is still not officially confirmed.
The April fight card in Abu Dhabi appears to be a stacked affair as Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort is also rumored to be on the card.
The UFC recently confirmed that 10% of the company was sold to Flash Entertainment, a government subsidiary of Abu Dhabi.
Rumored card after the jump.
- Champ Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort (for middleweight title)
- Champ B.J. Penn vs. Frankie Edgar
- Renzo Gracie vs. Matt Hughes
- Kendall Grove vs. TBA
