UFC's Abu Dhabi Card is Stacked
Things are beginning to fall in place for the UFC's Abu Dhabi debut which is tentatively scheduled for April 10th.
Vitor Belfort's manager confirmed that he will be fighting Anderson Silva for the UFC middleweight title at UFC 112 and the potential lightweight title fight between Frankie Edgar and B.J. Penn has also been confirmed by Dana White to take place in the Middle Eastern Emirate.
For those keeping track, four of the UFC's five titles (if we include the interim heavyweight belt) will be up for grabs at two events in a row. If we add UFC 113's main event then fight fans will get to see five title fights in three fight cards.
With two title fights in Abu Dhabi card plus the recent sale of 10% of Zuffa to Flash Entertainment, a subsidiary of the emirate, it is fairly easy to assume that the new owners want a stacked event for their Middle Eastern debut.
Not that this is necessarily a bad thing.
Hell, considering the fact that Abu Dhabi is building an arena for UFC 112 they deserve a stacked card.
- Champ Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort (for middleweight title)
- Champ B.J. Penn vs. Frankie Edgar
- Renzo Gracie vs. Matt Hughes
- Kendall Grove vs. TBA
