Florian vs. Gomi Rumors Continue to Swirl

When the UFC announced an awkward looking Takanori Gomi fans immediately began salivating about the possibilities for the former Pride lightweight champion. Gomi may of had a rough go of things lately but it appears that the UFC will strike while the iron is hot and match Gomi up against Kenny Florian.

Fighter's Only reports that the possible lightweight battle could occur at UFC Fight Night 22 on March 31st in North Carolina. Fight Night 22 will be the lead in to the eleventh season of The Ultimate Fighter, which will be coached by Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz.  Florian vs. Gomi could add some extra juice for the Fight Night card as it is four days after the mega UFC 111 and ten days after the UFC's other Fight Night offering on Versus, which features a main event between Jon Jones and Brandon Vera.

However, Kenny Florian put a kibosh on a possible Fight Night bout:

"I don't make the business decisions, obviously, but it really doesn't make a lot of sense to not have us on pay-per-view," Florian said. "I think a lot of people would want to see that fight if it was going to happen, and I don't see - if it was going to happen - how it could be on Spike TV."

Makes sense for Florian whose past four fights have all come on pay-per view plus being apart of the co-main event at UFC 91 and the main event at UFC 101.

Then again, if we are to believe Kenny's brother, Keith, who recently said, "God willing, we'll have a fight around March or April, and then August would be fantastic", then Kenny may be forced to fight at Fight Night 22.

Here's an idea. Put Kimbo Slice on the card. That way a lot of people will watch it so whoever wins is an instant contender for the lightweight title.

why a fight night card

i have no idea what they are doing, but while kenny is known, Gomi is not. A lot of the people willing to go to a bar to watch or pay for a ppv know Gomi, a free fight on spike would show him to a much larger audience if that leads to a bj penn fight.
