WEC Ratings get back to pre-DirecTV Dispute Levels
MMA Junkie has the ratings for WEC 46: Varner vs. Henderson.
WEC 46 averaged 640,000 viewers during the Sunday night broadcast.
For the WEC this is certainly good news as it nearly doubles their ratings output from their last outing. Yet, WEC 46 failed to surpass WEC 42's average viewership.
Average Viewers
- WEC 46 - 640,000
- WEC 45 -330,000
- WEC 44 - 414,000
- WEC 43 - 419,000
- WEC 42 - 670,000 DirecTV pulled Versus from their feed after this card
Why is that important? Because WEC 42 was the last WEC card shown on Versus before the Comcast owned sports channel went black on DirecTV (read more about the dispute here).
It is also important to note that WEC 46 featured the promotion's biggest draw, Urijah Faber, a former champion, in Mike Brown, and a lightweight title fight. Compare that to WEC 42, which only had one marquee name on the card and that was Miguel Torres who was fighting a relatively unknown Brian Bowles.
So, if you are a glass half empty kind of person then WEC 46's ratings highlight the loss of viewers from DirecTV. If you are a glass, half full kind of person than WEC 46 showed a 94% increase in ratings compared to WEC 45. Now it is up to you to pick a side because we're at war.
