Nate Marquardt Fighting for a Title Shot
Nate Marquardt believes that a victory over Chael Sonnen at UFC 109 will earn him a title shot.
"From what I understand, if I win this fight, I will get the shot," Marquardt said.
"I think (Belfort's) a great fighter. I don't necessarily agree with him getting a shot or whatever, just because he really hasn't fought at 85," Marquardt commented. "His first fight in the UFC was at 95, but to be honest it doesn't really matter too much to me because I've got a good fight coming up and to me I'm going to have to fight all those guys anyways, so it doesn't really matter."
Since the UFC let Dan Henderson go Marquardt inherits the role of number one contender in waiting. WKR would go further than Nate and say that the winner of the Marquardt-Sonnen bout will receive a title shot.
Well, as long as Anderson Silva and Ed Soares sign off on the victor...

That was the same response people had when he was going up against Okami…
But Chael embarrassed him instead with a shutout.

yea, but Chael was able to out wrestle okami, which left Okami screwed. Anderson has faced stronger wrestlers than him and it has not shown a problem.

Well the only wrestler that I can think of is Henderson. Whether who is better is arguable.
Chael had a far superior collegiate carerr, while Henderson was on the Olympic team twice when Chael was just an alternate.
I would not bet against Silva against anyone at MW anyway, but Chael is nothing to be laughed at after tooling Miller and Okami

In response to this story though:
No, Nate. You will not be getting the next title shot.
Why? Because Ed Soares and Anderson are selfish. The truth is this:
- Anderson is bored of the MW division.
- Anderson wants to fight heavier 205 and HW
- Anderson wont fight Lyoto AND wont relinquish his belt
- Anderson was VERY open to a fight with Mir in December
- When the UFC put there foot down on the weight jump, they had to pull teeth to get him to fight Vitor because of
“bone spurts” in his hand. This is 8 months later
Sorry Nate, Anderson will find another reason to halt the division and Ed Soares will say you are not ready.
