Cage Cast 60: The Co-Promotional Crisis Discussion Group
Updated for your evening listening pleasure.
It is our 60th episode of Cage Cast which means we have to do something special. Luckily Josh Gross wrote an article about co-promotion, which got everyone's juices flowing. So for this episode of Cage Cast WKR decided it would be smart to interview two writers with opposite perspectives on the matter. First we talk to Kid Nate of Bloodyelbow and then subo of Fightlinker.
You can download the episode here, subscribe to our RSS feed here and check us out on iTunes. The streaming version is below. Send feedback to watchkalibrun@gmail.com.
For those that are out of the loop here is a friendly link dump to get yourselves caught up.

I have to assume that this “subo” is on Zuffa’s payroll in some way and not just a Dana White follower because that piece was laughable and would be more than a little pathetic if it were coming from just a UFC fan and not someone with some sort of a vested interest in Zuffa..
I appreciate it
Even when I disagree with Subo (always) I love hearing his rationale and often partially agree with him. Sort of the way you agree that the guy shouldn’t have talked about my woman like that, but disagree with me biting his throat while stabbing a pencil through his ribs.
subo is the biggest and blidest of the ufc/dana nuthuggers in all of blog world.

No
Subo is and always has been a dunce. He’s just a fanboy not a shill.

I am not a big fan of co-promotion. It has shown that it has never worked. Such as these examples:
1. Affliction/M1/Golden Boy – utter failure and clearly someone was getting the crap end of the deal.
2. Elite XC/KOTC/ROTR/Cage-Rage/K-1 – People forget about this one, but I think it serves history correct that co-promotions can be huge failures. They had a network TV deal, solid regional followings, solid international followings and when they failed it shut down 3 successful local promotions in Hawaii and Cali (though KOTC was able to get back its assets in court).
I cant see the UFC doing a co-promotion because the overwhelming majority of MMA fans are UFC fans and UFC fans only (in terms of paying for the product which is the most important) so it doesnt make much business sense to work with a much lesser entity when they have bigger things on their radar ie global expansion
UEFA Champions league
Is co-promotion in the exact same spirit as MMA co-promotion.

subo
Writes some pretty epic rants for FL.
Loved his prediction for the Bisping-Kang fight: “…I wish the 2006 Denis Kang would show up and kill this Denis Kang…” Hilarious.
