Kenny Florian vs. Takanori Gomi scheduled for Fight Night 21

Florian-gomi_medium_medium

The previously rumored fight between Kenny Florian and Takanori Gomi is on.

MMA Live tweeted that Kenny Florian (12-4) vs. Takanori Gomi (31-5) is expected to take place as the main event of UFC Fight Night 21 on March 31st in North Carolina.

It is expected that if Gomi wins the former Pride lightweight champion would fight for the UFC lightweight title later this year. A win for Florian would certainly put him close to a title fight though this will only be his second fight since Florian lost to B.J. Penn at UFC 101.

im liking gomi in this. if kenny stands with him hes going to get a rude awakening. kenny tends to run (see heurta fight) when fighting strikers though.

hopefully gomi is motivated and its a good fight regardless.

yea

but the decision against the russian kid whos name ecapes me now was pretty questionable though. the submission loss he just looked like he didn’t even feel like fighting.

if motivated i think he can blow away kenny.

Given Gomi’s recent record, I’m not sure a win over him proves much. But for Gomi, a win over Florian proves a lot.

I want to see a return of the old Fireball Kid

but I’m going with Fla-Fla-Florian by decision. They’re kinda dropping him in the deep end in my opinion, but hopefully Gomi rises to the challenge.
