Wes Sims: The Latest Rumored Opponent for Bobby Lashley (Update)

Despite the MMA community's pleas for Strikeforce to abandon Bobby Lashley vs. TBA fight and just replace it with Hieron vs. Riggs Strikeforce continues to search for an opponent for Lashley.
The latest fighter that Strikeforce is trying to match-up against Lashley is UFC veteran and TUF 10 alum Wes Sims (22-12-1).
Some people have pointed out that if this fight occurs it will be eerily similar to a certain infamous EliteXC fight involving Kimbo Slice and Seth Petruzelli......
Lashley was originally scheduled to fight Yohan Banks but the Florida State Boxing Commissions refused to sanction the fight. It was then rumored that Bobby would fight Jimmy Ambriz but Strikeforce decided they didn't like the match-up.
Hopefully Strikeforce will simply move Lashley back to the CBS April card and find him a real opponent.
Update: MMA Junkie confirms that Wes Sims will fight Bobby Lashley on the televised card Strikeforce: Miami *sigh*
Sims is also scheduled to fight Tim Sylvia in Ohio on March 20th.

agreed
Strikeforce keeps trying to pad the records of their ‘stars’. This promotion is doomed to fail if they keep pullin this trash

most of us do
but it ain’t gonna happen. Strikeforce called Lashley and told him he was fighting on the 30th.
I am not sure what Lashley is yet and Wes is a former UFC fighter, but Lashley is definitely not Kimbo.
Lashley is bigger, quicker, younger, a better athlete, and has a solid pedigree (wrestling champion) for MMA. Lashley is not Lesnar, but not Kimbo.

im not sure where kimbo and brock stuff is coming from in your reply. im not taking shots at lasley or anything.
im just tired of the musical chairs of opponents. the fight, no matter what tomato can or hasbeen they put in front of lasley its going to be a 1988 wwf superstars squash match. its much better for showtime to just show highlights of the fight, edit it nicely and pimp lashley as a future contender etc and show a real fight in riggs vs heiron.
i dont think showtime, lasley, strikeforce etc have anything to gain by showcasing a squash match.

completely agree
i have even written about it on this site.
the lashley/kimbo/brock stuff is about this tweet, which zak mentioned in the article. it was discussed in the BE comments as well. People are making the comparison that Lashley is not Brock and should not be treated as a top top prospect, therefore not thrown to wolves and that Lashley might lose to wes in a similar way kimbo lost to seth. my point was that just because Lashley is not Brock does not mean he is Kimbo.
Nothing to do with your comment. Has to do with talk about people comparing lashley and brock and comparing the similarities between this lashley/sims fight and kimbo/seth fight

one more thing
i do not like how they were trying to throw a can for Lashley, but the do have something to gain and that is exposure.
even if it is against horrible competition (not saying Sims is) people seeing Lashley fight provides him more exposure for their CBS card in April. They probably want him on that card and most people have not actually seen Bobby fight yet, so this way they can show him to the fans, but not risk a loss and hurt his appeal for the CBS card.
I do not like it, but that is probably the case

I dont know what Hieron did for SF to hate him THAT MUCH:
1. Denied him a WW title shot
2. Then denied him a fight with Diaz
3. After not accepting a fight with Zaromskis, he is matched up with Riggs while Zaromskis gets a title shot
4. After not being able to find Booby an opponent for weeks, instead of moving Hieron on the main card they scrounge the earth to find a name opponent who will clearly lose
ouch
Wes Sims is my boy
I’ve loved that guy ever since he tried to stomp Frank Mirs face out the other side of his head. I don’t know why he doesn’t give it up and do pro wrestling. He’s got the size and the mic skills, he’d be a natural. Plus he’d be able to afford to move out from under that overpass. Guess he can’t shake the allure of legitimate competition. Whatta shame…
