Forrest Griffin: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira 'a Horrible Fight'
Forrest Girffin echoes the sentiments of some of our readers about his upcoming fight with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira:
"That is a horrible fight for me. I have trained with his brother a little bit, so he already has the 'inside scoop' on me, he's a southpaw, has got a good chin, and has good power. Plus he is pretty solid on the ground. The only place I would have an advantage would be wrestling... and my wrestling is not that good. So yeah, that's a tough match up for me. I'd do it, if that's what they wanted, but being straight up, there are other guys I'd rather fight."
Sounds like Forrest Griffin is lowering expectations though it would be interesting to see him employ a heavy leg kick strategy to try an neutralize Nogueira's boxing and force the former Pride fighter to try and take him down.
Then again, the last time Forrest fought a good Brazilian this happened.

Im a little disappointed in Forest here..
This is a man that was offered to fight A.Silva and said “hell yeah”. This is a man who actually thought he could defeat A.Silva. This is a man who stood and traded with A.Silva.
I figured that after that fight he would be fearless to fight anyone.. strange behavior from Forest.
He must want to fight some one in particular..

I think that picture sums up why the change in attitude

I dont know man...
As an example:
It is like bench pressing 405 and not getting it, then trying lesser weight. I would figure he would be more comfident after tackling a task like A./Silva, you know, have the attitude like “whats the worse that can happen, I just fough P4P the best”.
getting pummeled in the face over and over again to the point where your mind and body stop working as you sprawl out subdued on the ground is not the equivalent of failing a bench press.
Besides Nogueira won a bronze medal in boxing at the Pan American games in 2007 and was the 2006 and 2007 Brazilian Super Heavyweight Champion. Is a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and a very accomplished light-heavyweight fighter.
While Forrest might not be fighting the best pound-for-pound fighter he is still fighting a great opponent.
It could be that Griffin just wants to lower expectations and try to thrive in the underdog role a la the run-up to his fight with Shogun

Yeah. Forrest is an intelligent brawler who carries a lot of extra weight on his frame; Going up against a smoother and lighter boxer is a bad day for him.
