Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos Defends Title with TKO victory over Marloes Coenen
Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos successfully defended her Strikeforce 145lbs. title with a TKO victory over Marloes Coenen.
From the onset it was obvious that Santos' stand-up and strength was a league above Coenen's. That didn't stop Marloes from attempting to take the fight to the ground but her takedowns were routinely stuffed by her stronger opponent. Coenen was able to get the fight to the ground on several occasions --where most observers believed she had the best chance to win by utilizing her superior submission skills-- unfortunately, there was no little advantage for the Dutch challenger on the mat as she was forced to absorb numerous punches from her back.
Credit to Coenen for persevering through many difficult positions. However, in the third Marloes was unable to escape a barrage of punches from "Cyborg" as the referee called the fight.

Pretty much what was expected
I got a little nervous when Cyborg had her hand on the mat a few times, and even pinned under Coenen for a bit. But in the end the 135er just didn’t have a chance.
I think of Cyborg in the Brock Lesnar category of being so much bigger and well-conditioned than her opponents that wins are devalued to a slight degree?
