Georges St. Pierre Olympic Bound?
Georges St. Pierre talked to MMA Fighting about a possible Olympic bid.
"I haven't took my decision yet. I'm not sure if I'm going to do it or not. It has to be in a couple months before the summer. There are a lot of things I need to think about. Right now my wrestling is not good enough to do it, as it is right now. So it’s not an easy thing to consider".
...
"It's pretty hard. You need to be a champion in your country. Then once you're champion you need to qualify for the Olympics. It's something really hard. ...It's a thought in my head but everyone is making a big deal about it".
First, I think we are slightly a head of ourselves here as there is a lot of indecision in St. Pierre's voice. One positive is that Dana White seems at peace with adapting to St. Pierre's upcoming decision (via Cage Writer).
Reporter: I mean, pro or con for GSP going after the [sic] going after the gold?
Dana White: Yeah, you know, I think if--uh, if that what he decides he wants to do I am sure he'll come in we'll sit down and we will talk about it and we'll figure out--uh, how we'll do it.
While some fans are excited about the novelty of St. Pierre possibly competeing in London for the Summer games of 2012 there is a financial component to this decision. St. Pierre would be able to leverage an Olympic medal into some serious mainstream money and respectability.
For those that don't want GSP to compete in London, winning a medal would be an extra plus for St. Pierre's legacy as he would be the first MMA fighter since Matt Lindland (right?) to win a medal. That is a serious accomplishment for any athlete to achieve.
Update: Brett Okamoto of the Las Vegas Sun spoke to Randy Couture who said that St. Pierre is 'frustrated' with the media coverage surrounding the possibility of an Olympic bid.

I think it’s a moot point. Even if he attempts it, I highly doubt he’d even make it past trials. He’s starting too late. Becoming a great wrestler in an MMA situation but going against guys who have wrestled and ONLY wrestled most of their natural lives is a big difference.
If he does it, at his age and with his late start, it won’t be just the biggest MMA story of 2012, it’ll be the biggest Olympic story as well.
