A Blogger In Training: Putting my Words where my Mouth is (wait, what?)
Blogger in Training. Putting my words where my mouth is (wait, what?).
Consider me the Bob Costas of Mixed Martial Arts Reporting. Not the wholesome image, being near the top of the reporting world, or the fact that High School basketball teams tower over me. The comparison is that I report on a subject based off of viewing, insight, and research, as opposed to previous participation. Well, that changes today people. I will be starting a new segment were I chronicle my venture into mixed martial arts. This is not intended to be a story showing how I got into fighting because I do not plan to make a career out of actually fighting. It is more focused on learning and taking classes with no experience. I start classes today and will be posting weekly updates of my training (a.k.a getting my ass whooped). The goal of this endeavor is to help push anyone thinking about taking classes and entertain you with some humor (no guarantees) as you laugh at my unavoidable mishaps and embarrassing moments. If you enjoy reading about the misfortunes of others than I highly recommend you tune in.
Let me provide you with a little insight into me, the guinea pig, to give you a stronger grasp of the stories that are about to unfold. I am a 25 year old, skinny, adult (ehh) male who was active his whole life up until two years ago when I became a lazy bum. Otherwise known as a working adult. This is not intended to be arrogant, but compared to the average person I am also a good athlete. I was not even close to playing professional or division one sports, but when compared to the average individual I am a strong athlete and have played competitive, yet traditional American sports (football, baseball, basketball) my whole life. Hopefully, this will prevent some embarrassment at the gym.
However, this is doubtful because I have no experience related to MMA. The closest I have come to participating in a striking discipline is when I shadow box with my dog, which I usually lose. I have not done boxing, muay thai, kickboxing, or even Billy Blanks Cardio Tae Bo exercises throughout the entirety of life. Also, the closest I have come to having mat experience is my three days (total) of judo classes and reenacting the People's Elbow and the Stone Cold Stunner with brother when we were younger...about 2 years ago. However, despite the obvious embarrassment that I will soon face this training will help me provide stronger insight and analysis to the reader. For my own benefits, I will no longer leave impressions in my futon and I will be participating in a sport I thoroughly enjoy.
The training is Monday through Friday with a different discipline taught each day. So Monday is Judo, Tuesday is BJJ, Wednesday is Sambo, Thursday is Submission Grappling, and Friday is Boxing. While I would love to make it there every day it is just not possible as I work a full time job. My goal is to get over there two days a week and present this segment weekly on Mondays which will detail the previous week. Maybe if people enjoy this segment I can eventually include some videos.
*If anyone who lives in the CLEVELAND AREA is interested in taking classes in MMA, self defense or specifically Judo I will be taking my classes at CHU TO BU WEST located on the west side under lead Sensei PAUL JORDAN who is a Judo National Champ and Sambo National Medalist and most importantly someone I know is a good and understanding person. If you have any interest head to their website or call them at 440-937-6622. Let me know if you sign up and I'll let you know what days I am showing up.*

I’d love to study BJJ with Ricado Pieres, who just opened a nice gym in Beechwood. But fulltime work, school, and a newborn baby is going to kill my time. Good luck!
i work on the westside (lake erie crushers) so i originally found cho to bu because it is close to the stadium, but once i got there (for my 3 judo classes) i liked the coaches (still weird for me to call a coach, sensei, but i am getting better).
i also have full time work, school, and a newborn baby. Oh wait, i have only full time work and complain about being busy. I cannot imagine how stretched your time is.
Although, being jewish i probably should feel an obligation to head to beachwood (cleveland inside joke) as it just feels right. in all serious i am nervous about tonight. i swear if a kid in junior high chokes me out i might never go back again (definite possibility).

You should have linked like this:
The way you linked allows people to see all of your pictures. Unless you don’t mind, which is admirable. Connecting with the fans and all, growing the community.
thank you
i definitely wrote it up at work and did have time to look up/figure out how to do that. However, i held out from joining facebook for about 6 years when all my friends joined so i have very little on there and do not really care if people see my photos.
however, i made the switch, thanks.

Good luck Zach. Most people that I’ve dealt with in the martial arts community have been welcoming and willing to help. You’re going in with the right attitude…its the guys who go into training with the “I’m the biggest, strongest, most athletic guy here” mentality who have a real hard time.
