SC Michaelson Ruined WKR For Me

if you have had one well maybe time to patch things up. he is reasonable.

As a disclaimer, this has nothing to do with those sexist comments SC wrote a while ago, to which I responded a few times. I’ll enter any debate/argument with someone who is rational and reasonable. My whole thing is helping people realize that we need a change in culture with regards to sexism and feminism; the more outlets I get to express that, the better.

Comments were not sexist. I told a poster he was crying like a girl about something I wrote and then explained how calling a man a girl is an insult. I then said that men and women’s brains functions different and that escalated to “sexism” as the ABLs came out in droves.

It’s safe to say SC has quite a bit of reach in the WKR community, or even the online MMA community. The primary reason he does is because people care about his opinion and like his style of writing. Instead of building on that and embracing comments, critique and people willing to argue with him, SC has opted to take the route of quasi dictatorship, shutting down anyone who disagrees with him, thus singlehandedly ruining the WKR experience (for me, at least).

This is basically BS. I am the most “interactive” writer on SBN Combat Sports (Kid Nate might say to my detriment). I have never edited or deleted or banned any poster despite some of the callous shit that gets slung towards my way from day one that I started writing here. Fail to see how I have a “dictatorship” or “shut down anyone who disagrees with me”. Where is your evidence? I wish one person would step up and say I’ve censored them.

Example: someone comments “this article is embarrassing.” SC’s reply? “not an article, you dumb fuck.” Acceptable reactions, in my opinion, would have been either ignoring the person (since it wasn’t a constructive comment, the least SC could do is just ignore instead of insulting), or better yet, asking what was so bad about it, or encouraging the person to suggest a topic to write about, or I don’t know.

3. If you don’t have semi-salient point and resort to ad hominems, you will get ad hominemed right back. I don’t “ignore”. It’s more fun to “smack down”.
4. You also couldn’t help but put your “two cents” into the vein of conversation with a, what I might say was goading, comment
5. It was a gotdamn picture. What constructive criticism could he have possibly given? LOL. For an example of me taking someone’s comment and asking for CC, read the post on Bjorn Rebney where someone made a comment, I asked them to expound and they did. I can tell who wants to dialogue and who wants to just be a prick. Pricks get treated like pricks.

I think SC would benefit from a lesson in humility. He wouldn’t have the chance to write and reach so many people if these same people didn’t take time out of their day to read his work and comment on it. We all know that internet commenters are at times a nasty breed, but most other websites I read and frequent deal with their detractors and “trolls” so much better than SC does. He is so brash and abrasive that I’ve finally reached my breaking point and have decided to unsubscribe from this website.

The funny thing is, I don’t do this for “fans”. I don’t have any designs on being Ariel Helwani or Josh Gross. I’m just a dude who writes stuff. There could be 20 people reading what I write. Hell, I post everything to BE anyway. If I need humility (as you say), what do you think a post like this with my name in lights does to my (according to you) inflated ego? “Most other websites” delete and ban people who disagree. From what people said, WKR was always about “free expression” and whatnot. Otherwise, i’d shut the shit down quick. Hell, we can have a vote.

I may only be one person, and I may be the only person who feels this way, but if SC and WKR care at all about the readership they have developed and the loyalty of WKR readers, they will at least consider this reader’s opinion. I’m interested in MMA as a fan, blogger and reporter; I’m in WKR’s target audience, and as such they should at least wonder and care about others SC may have alienated.

Nah, you’re definitely not. In fact, I expect this to be one of the most repped fanposts of all-time (see the last time someone said similar things). You want to change WKR? Write more fanposts. That way, I can just promote yours to the front page and I don’t have to write so much. Not bragging or nothing, but I’ve been carrying this site on my back for a couple months now. No complaints, no whining.

The peanut gallery has had much to say but nobody stepped up. The last time people got to complaining was in August and Kid Nate said “Write fanposts”.. How many have been written? Not many. Most of them by Kaleb who’s now a writer for the site. Anybody else step up? No.

Yeah, way to be disingenuous there Julie. You try and act like you’re some arbiter of fairness, yet you totally misconstrue my reply to you to the general public. You’re clearly in this for some sort of attention. I didn’t say anything of the sort that your post was “basically BS”, I was responding to a certain paragraph.

And I definitely didn’t say or imply that you were “definitely not” a part of the target audience. I said you’re “definitely not” as in “the only person who feels this way”. That was OBVIOUS because I then followed that up with the fact that this will get a lot of recs. I mean the context clues were right there. But you chose to put some Bill O’Reilly spin on it.

SMH @ her implying that I would “pull” this when I said that I would even put it on the front page.

This blog is about MMA not bra burning… Nobody cares that you are a self important butthurt diva.
If you dont like anyone’s articles on ANY SITE you dont have to read them.
At least this blog doesn’t censor your posts or opinions like BE if they don’t agree with it.
SC always mans up to his detractors… Agree with him or not; that is pretty fucking respectful to you and others haters to take your trolling and pull the seams of logic from the false outfit you wear.

“Black Lesnar”… Why are people always trying to come up by standing on your shoulders?

Yes he has damaged the site in a lot of our eyes, yes this place if becoming more like bloody elbow every day (people don’t need to be banned for it to be like BE). You have to understand that even if we dispise the way the site has changed zak won’t do anything about it as long as the views keep coming, S.C and BE both understand that hate is worth just as much as love in page views and if the numbers don’t go down then neither will he. He has learned well from kid douche that controversial editorials get the comments and even a shit strom is still viewed as positive traffic, BE has mastered that approach, they poke the wasp nest every chance they get. For those of us who are not plugged in to the matrix our choice is simple. Leave.

Let me invite you to join those of us who have been turned off by contributing to other sites. You have both MMA for Real and MMA mania at your disposal. You can also ignore any article with his name under it like i do. Yes that means ignoring 80% of the site for the last few months but oh well….

I am a fan of WKR and have been for a long time. I don’t normally post much, just tend to sit in the background because the editors’ material is usually entertaining enough. I just thought that I would offer my two cents on this fanpost.

Firstly, S.C. Michaelson/Black Lesnar is a good writer, and like he says, he has been a great asset to the website since Zak took his leave from writing the main material for the site. If people are complaining that Michaelson posts too much, then, like he suggests, write a piece so that he doesn’t have to do as much work. That way, the community can benefit from having your opinion, rather than a frontpage dominated 3/4 by Michaelson’s material

Despite saying that, I have read some of S.C. Michaelson’s response/comments to other readers, and I agree with MetricJulie that some of them seem antagonising and arrogant. Perhaps it’s just your character, S.C., but having humiliation is not a bad thing. You must recognise that people will just argue with you for the sake of it, and sometimes, its best just to say nothing. This is especially true now that you are such a prominent poster.

Finally, the last thing that this site needs is to have less membership and traffic. I’m sure that many readers appreciate your contribution to this site MetricJulie – your Haiku on Thiago Alves’ weight problems was particularly entertaining, and I was hoping that you would write more in the future. One person unsubscribing from WKR might not make a difference, but when more and more people start to do it, then it is potentially extremely damaging. If you are unhappy with the content, then go about changing it (think of it like Jamie Oliver changing school dinners in England!)

Heres hoping that you (MetricJulie) don’t unsubscribe from such a great website, and you (S.C. Michaelson), keep up the great work.

Seriously, theres a time and place, and a way to make a difference. Making a fanpost declaring that you’re leaving a blog, whilst complaining about a writer being unprofessional (I guess thats what I come away with after reading the post), is a silly way to go about leaving. We understand that content has changed, new faces are around, and this leads to changes. I speak for myself only, but I doubt I’m alone, in saying that if you, or any one of WKR’s dedicated readers have a gripe, critique, or suggestion, I’d be delighted to find it in my inbox. No, we cannot please everyone, this is as true for blogging as it is anywhere else in life, but there’s no need for outbursts, when there’s ALWAYS a happier solution.

As a long time lurker and occasional poster on WKR and BE I really don’t see how S.C. has degraded or harmed the WKR community.

When people don’t offer constructive criticism or present a logical opinion on an article why the hell should we respect that?

S.C. seems to be an abrasive guy but that’s just his style, get over it. Be an adult and understand the point, not how it may “insult” you.

SC, I’ll admit, you have the ability to annoy the hell out of me sometimes, but honestly some of the stuff you do is brilliant. Your story on sterioids was great, and so was your interview with Malki Kawa. This site hasn’t been ruined for me, and if there IS something that I don’t want to read, I don’t read it. Simple.

you should of went for the typo route. He writes articles for mania giving gambling advice, a lot of it isn’t financially sound. I dont really read fan posts, they suck. I only read this one because it’s by julie, and I’m a little upset, I feel like I bought tickets for Elf and walked into schindler’s list. seriously. whats up with that?

Everybody here has an opinion on SC. I do too.
Now, before I read a post by him, I know what I am gonna get. It is usually something lame or sophmoric. So I quit reading his stuff.
The big problem for me is that his stuff is so prolific on this site.
This is not a knock on SC. Its just that his writing isnt on the same level as what I want to read about MMA. And that is not to say his posts are on a lower level.
I wish others would step up and write more but they dont so we are inundated with his comments. Thats part of the reason I have begun to look elsewhere for news and opinions on MMA.

I can’t really discern who’s right or wrong in this argument although I’m leaning toward SC but the bottom line is don’t read what you don’t like. Theres a whole internet out there with MMA sites for days try one.

Honestly, I should be good enough to keep you around. I mean, we’re talking some high quality shit here.
