Matt Lindland Says Next Win Makes Him Top 10 In The World

PrintLindland spoke to MMA Weekly about his upcoming fight with Robbie Lawler at Saturday's Strikeforce: Henderson vs Babalu event on Showtime.
"I’m looking forward to fighting Robbie," Lindland said. "He’s a young talented guy. He’s been in the sport as long as I have, so he’s got a ton of experience."
No matter the amount of respect he has for Lawler, Lindland still sees this fight as a steppingstone towards a greater good. He seeks a return to title town. Gold hardware is a must for the veteran, and his opinion of being a Top 10 fighter leads him to believe he is set on the path to becoming a champion.
"I think I’m still one of the top contenders in this sport, a Top 10 guy," he said. "Of course, I lost to the champion, ‘Jacare’ (Ronaldo Souza), and I think this is a great path back to that title contention. A win against Robbie certainly solidifies me in the Top 10."

I pretty much stick to the USA Today/SB rankings.
I don’t always 100% agree, but they’re the only major place that really goes past #15. Plus I like how they compile the rankings so the nutjobs (like whoever ranked Overeem as the #1 HW) get averaged out against the more realistic people.
And if you’ve gonna be talking about SF…you REALLY need o be able to go past #10.

Reem is top 10 ( I have him around # 7/8)
- is crazy, but he can be top 3 with a win over Fedor/Werdum IMO

If they ever fight. I don’t think a win over Werdum, right now, would make him a top 3 though. Top 5 for sure.
Personally I think Overeem would blast either Werdum or Fedor early in round 1, but only if he comes out aggressive.
