Scout Coker Says "No Thanks" To Signing Gerald Harris

via prommanow.com

In a move that mirrors their pro wrestling doppleganger TNA Wrestling, Strikeforce is showing restraint in acquiring UFC recent castoffs like Gerald Harris or Efrain Escudero. While both men are solid fighters (and in Efrain's case, young) and would be a welcome addition to any up-and-coming organization's divisions, Strikeforce has decided to pass, especially in the case of Gerald Harris.

"I talked to my guys about it, actually, they talked to me about it," Coker said of signing Harris. "I watched the fight [against Falcao], I didn't know how to judge it. Then they told me about his background and his past and things you are telling me now, that this guy is a tremendous athlete (who) has a ton of potential and just had bad showing or fought very cautious to try and win the fight.

"The only thing right now is we are really committed to the fighters we have under contract now and I want to make sure these guys get in the mix two or three next year. That doesn't mean we can't revisit with him, but for right now, I would say that I want to take care of the roster we currently have."

While I can understand the reasoning behind not wanting to pick up the bigger organization's "scraps" as it would make you look second-rate, I don't think that's the motivation here. It looks like to me Coker is saying "Hey, I've got a lot of fighters on my roster that I can't even get fights for, why bring in a middle of the road guy?" which is perfectly fine...if Strikeforce wasn't adamant about trying to bring in 3-time steroid failure, haven't fought anyone relevant in years Josh Barnett who isn't even licensed in America. Matter of fact, he'll be fighting for his MMA life alongside fellow PED failure Chael Sonnen Thursday at the California State Athletic Commission hearing.

Notice I didn't mention Walker, Lashley or even Batista because they are draws, but what drawing power does Josh Barnett have in America? They have enough Heavyweights that won't fight each other, why add another who avoided Fedor for years and has the stench of steroids on him?

Barnett is a HW

Good HW are hard to come by.
Barnet is a good HW no matter what you say.
Gerald Harris is not a HW
Gerald Harris is a MW
MW’s are alot easier to find.
also

why add another who avoided Fedor for years and has the stench of steroids on him?

Barnett has been asking for Fedor for years. He even said he signed with SF so he could face Fedor.

If he had wanted Fedor that bad

they could have fought there. One of those guys spent a lot of time avoiding a fight with the other.

Do you know that?

Barnett made his PRIDE debut at PRIDE 28.
He lost his first 2 fights in PRIDE to Cro Cop
Then he joined the open weight tourny (a tourny Fedor wasn’t in)
Barnett loses to Cro Cop in the finals
He fights twice more in PRIDE and it falls apart.
He never got the chance to fight Fedor in PRIDE.
Then he fights for Affliction.
Affliction matches Fedor with Barnett
Barnett fails the drug test and Affliction folds.
Fedor eventually signs with SF
Barnett signs with SF (and says it’s cuz he wants Fedor)

How the fuck is Barnett ducking Fedor?!?!

That’s a really nice picture of Coker you’ve got there.

1. I am rather certain Barnett never ducked Fedor
2. You yourself said that people want to see HWs, well SF would rather go with a HW than a MW

I'm not saying directly choose Harris over Barnett

I thought Barnett wanted to fight Fedor?

He was saying all that “It’s always been me and him” bullshit a few months back, acting like he was supposed to be the guy who eventually beat Fedor. It was a joke. I dislike Barnett as a person, but I don’t think he’s been ducking.

Also I’m excited to see him fight again. Love the catch-wrestlers. I was glad Strikeforce signed him. He reminds me of the halcyon days.

First comment ever on WKR! Have been lurking for quite some time. I like this site.

Wilkommen

But Barnett had a lot of time in PRIDE to fight Fedor if he wanted.

Gotta love a bit of CaCC

and like you say, whatever else can be attributed to him, Barnett’s one of the best in the business at it

No, this is not mirroring TNA Wrestling

This is the complete opposite… and sadly, Strikeforce comes off the better for it.

Actually, TNA has decided to not get WWE castoffs anymore

Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas, etc. Unless they are “big stars”.
