Ok, where are the wires?
That’s some pretty standard fare for an Asian action movie, but I’ve never even seen anyone attempt something similar in a pro fight.
The only other guy I can think of who uses the cage to empower his strikes is Anderson, and he only grabs the cage when he kicks people, or grabs the top bar. I think he’s done it two or three times in his UFC career? I can’t even think of anyone else who’s used that surface to augment a strike.
Impressive stuff.
Alan Belcher did it against Akiyama with a superman punch.
But lets get real I’ve never seen anything as cool as that kick

Belcher’s was OK but not magical.

Pettis = MMA History
In my head, Anderson Silva has the most magical cage performances:
- crazy elbow KO vs Fryklund
- vs. Leben . . . well I thought it was bizarre and super-magical
- vs Forrest Griffin . . . Muhammad Ali with a sprinkle of Roy Jones Jr. and Pernell Whitaker
- vs Ryo Chonnen . . . flying scissor heel-hook = HA!!!
Anthony Pettis’ highlight reel kick is definitely up there. That was cinematic and magical! People will remember that kick like we remember Toby Imada’s crazy submission victory.
It would have been cool if he finished Henderson with that kick but . . . yeah, Henderson is freaking durable. He was hurt often throughout the fight. Excuse my emtional, reactionary, fanatic output but Pettis will be the next UFC lightweight champion. Period.

Well, the next UFC LW champ will be Gray Maynard. But after that we can only hope.
