UFC 109 Highlights
Earlier today we commented on the UFC's smart decision to put the "Ice Spill" on Youtube, effectively using an incident that got people talking to market UFC 110. A commenter asked why the promotion was failing to put highlights online. Well, the UFC started putting highlights on Youtube too.
The above video is basically a montage set to rock music rather than a traditional highlight package used by sports media. Even the commentary from Rogan and Goldberg is only partially faded in. Thus, we can look at the video as psuedo-commercial designed to get viewers to buy the pay-per view replay. In fact the final shot is an "order the replay" poster.
While this is a step in the right direction the video leaves an empty feeling. Highlight reel packages are suppose to impart critical information to viewers who missed the event while simultaneously capturing the feeling of the event. In that sense it fails. The video of Couture hitting Coleman or Mike Swick jumping up and down doesn't tell the viewer the story or meaning of each fight. In that manner WKR would encourage you to check out our Video Recap and compare the two and ask yourself, which one imparted more information?
