MFC President Issues an Apology
We don't publish all the press releases we receive but this one has a special place in the pantheon of "Oh s*** I can't believe they just sent that" moments:
Fighter quits, blows big opportunity at MFC 24
By MFC StaffChris Price has blown has his shot at making a name for himself in the MFC, and at the same time, likely torpedoed his entire career in mixed martial arts.
The light heavyweight was supposed to make his organizational debut at MFC 24: Heat XC but after several issues regarding his passport arose, he has now backed out of his fight against Nick Penner completely. In fact Price told one half of his management via text message that he was finished with fighting all together, apparently stating "I’m done. I was never that good in the first place."
Price had initially run into passport problems in reference to substantial amounts of child support he owed to his wife. The pair had split up with his wife filing for child support, but then got back together thus erasing the need for support. Though that issue seemed bypassed for the time being, Price continued to waffle on getting his passport right up until allegedly contacting his agent and flushing his fight career.
"It’s embarrassing," offered one source close to Price. "The kid hung everyone out to dry and then didn’t have the balls to call – he sent a text."
Umm, okay...
MFC went into damage control mode as the MFC President, Mark Pavelich, sent out an email apology.
With all do respect,
There was a Press Release on the Chris Price situation that went out from our office yesterday; it was brought to my attention by some MFC Fans. I do not read or edit 90% of things that go on the sight. There was a paragraph that was in the release that was written by one of our staff writers. After reading it myself I thought it was absolutely uncalled for and was extremely offensive. I would like to apologise first and foremost to Chris Price and his family as well as anyone who received it today. It is not the position of the Maximum Fighting Championship to make attacks on personal issues in Mr. Price's current family situation. We wish Mr. Price the best of luck in the future and I will find the time to proof read every article prior to going on the MFC website in the future.
Sincerely,
Mark Pavelich MFC President
Nice cover there Mark, except it would have been nice to refer to a website as a "site" rather than a "sight" and, you know, actually own up to the mistake rather than passing the buck by blaming a writer and say you don't read 90% of the things". But overall I am sure Chirs Price is totally cool with MFC releasing information about his family life to the MMA media.
On a serious note, when WKR read the initial press release it reminded us of what Dana White said (and how that was inappropriate) after the Karo Parisyan incident at UFC 106. Are we beginning to see a trend of mid-level MMA institutions channeling Dana White, believing it is appropriate media relations? Remember Fight Mafia founder, Noel Brooks? Brooks released a video blog rant against Nate Quarry as the two were in a dispute over payment for Fight Mafia's sponsorship of Quarry at an earlier fight. Very similar to White's own rant infused video blogs...

THE "CRYBABY" EPISODE!
oh man, the Nate Quarry rant was one of the best WORST youtube sensations EVER!
… and thank you for clarifying “site” vs “sight”. for a minute there, i thought my French was getting in the way of understanding the sentence.
im no fan of dana white and his ridiculous tantrums but i can see the kayo anger. however he should have seen it coming. kayo has all the signs and symptoms of a flat out junkie. but then again why in the world kick a man when hes down?
the mcf putting out a press release is just silly and amateurish. thats even below dana i think. its one thing to go on rant during an interview with fanhouse or yahoo but another to put out a press release on the matter.

Here's the Thing...
This isn’t the first time MFC has gone on the offensive about a fighter they’ve had issues with.
Ryan Ford, currently the TFC Welterweight champ (and fellow Victoria resident!), left due to a contract stalemate and they slammed him. They followed a similar path with Drew Fickett back in the day.
Once is a mistake, twice is a pattern and three times is inexcusable.
Yes, a staffer wrote the piece, but as the head of the company, Pavelich is liable and responsible and should be reading everything.
What’s worse is that many view MFC as the best brand in Canada and getting on MMA Fighting is a great opportunity for exposure, but not like this. This just makes Canadian MMA look amateurish, and I can tell you first hand that that isn’t the case.

To give you an idea of the level the MFC is operating on, have a look at the “staff” section on their website. The only people listed are Pavelich himself, some tranny who I presume is his wife, and what I presume are his two kids. The tranny wife is “co-president”, the son is “vice president & junior partner”, and the daughter is “anthem singer / merchandise”.
So yeah, no surprise that they’re, shall we say, somewhat less than professional.
and as long as we’re fussing about spelling or misused words, respect is ‘due’ not ‘do.’
