Marc Ratner responds to Ontario Premier

Zuffa released a prepared statement following the news that Ontario Premier, Dalton McGuinty, believes MMA regulation is, "not a top priority". McGuinty's statements may prove to be a serious setback for MMA legislation in the province as the UFC was hoping to hold an event in Toronto in 2010.

Marc Ratner, the UFC vice president of regulatory affairs, responded accordingly:

"We are working very closely with the various levels of Canadian government, including the Province of Ontario, to ensure the highest levels of safety for all of (MMA) participants. We respect the fact that the Premier has indicated that MMA regulation is not a top priority; however, we are confident that our efforts in educating Canadian officials, including members of the provincial cabinet, will eventually result in regulation of the sport in Ontario."

For those that missed it Mauro Ranallo laid into the Premier on his radio show over the situation.

As I said before, Premier McGuinty isn’t the problem… or at least not the root of it. The problem is that the head of the Ontario athletic commission, Ken Hayashi, is cock-blocking MMA because he just doesn’t like it.
