Pat Miletich vs. Frank Shamrock in May?

Pat-fran_medium

FiveOuncesofPain talked to Pat Miletich (29-7-2) who informed them that he and Frank Shamrock (23-10-2) and Pat Miletich (29-7-2) have verbally agreed to fight either in April or May.

If Strikeofrce goes ahead with a May date the card would be sandwiched between two UFC pay-per views, a WEC pay-per view and the Mosley-Mayweather fight. April would place the clash of former UFC champions on the scheduled CBS card.

Shamrock and Miletich were suppose to meet in a 'superfight' back in the pre-TUF days.

Before you criticize Strikeforce for putting together an AARP fight between two aged legends, the UFC has an event this weekend headlined by the exact same thing.

Uggh. True, the UFC is doing something similar…but Randy is in a different league. Coleman still has to prove that he’s in a different league (I’m not sure he is).

I like this match up better than the randy fight, but unlike randy and coleman who have been active. Pat has not, but if it does happen I hope it’s a banger.

Not even close. And you know it. Forget about the age and look at what they have done as of late for your answer.

Dont hate.

I am not hating.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE both of them. My favorite fight/event is UFC 68 headlined by Couture (Columbus homer). Coleman in Pride was Wundervab! Remember I have a very dry voice most of the time ;-)

It’s just that they have all seen better days and none are serious contenders within the division, which is not the end of the world I still want to see the fights. Both fights were suppose to be super fights in the late 90’s and both fights are now taking place with fighters in their late forties.

The snide old guy comments write themselves

I would call Randy a contender, he is def not a gatekeeper in either division (HW or LHW). Coleman is a gatekeeper.

Which is sadly 10x more than Pat or Shammy are now. The difference is that 2 are old guys still putting up fights against todays talent, and the other are just old guys who commentate.

I’d like to see this fight. I want to see Couture/Coleman too and for anyone to say this fight is a joke while they defend Couture/Coleman is just not be honest with themselves.

The fights are mirror images of one another. Just so happens one is in the UFC so obviously that one has to be legitimate while the other is meaningless. Right?

How are these any different?

Frank and Randy both lost promotional titles in 2008. Pat and Coleman were both left for dead and assumed retired, until both just flattened career journeymen. Thomas Denny, much like Bonnar at this point, is a complete journeyman, but a good middling win to set this legends battle up.

Furthermore this is another “unfinished business” fight. You could also draw comparisons to this recent season of TUF with a faded Liddell and Ortiz hammering it out once again.

I love these “master’s division” fights.
