Rockstar girls deliver ratings gold! Well, silver. Actually, more like bronze...

MMA Junkie is reporting that Strikeforce: Miami drew 517,000 viewers throughout the broadcast.

The card represents a 51.6% increase in ratings compared to Strikeforce's last Showtime offering. The event didn't surpass Showtime's MMA viewership record, which happened at Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg.

Strikeforce: Miami - 517,000 viewers
Strikeforce: Evolution - 341,000 viewers.
Stikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg - 576,000 viewers
Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Diaz - 364,000 viewers

Showtime is available in approximately 12 million homes.

The UFC countered the Strikeforce show with a replay of UFC 107. MMA Junkie also reports that the Spike product averaged 2.2 million viewers.

The UFC has previously aired three counter replays to Strikeforce shows; two on Showtime one on CBS

UFC 94 Replay - 1.9 million viewers (countered Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Diaz)
UFC 100 partial Replay - 2 million viewers (countered Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg)
UFC "Main Events" - 1.2 million viewers (countered Strikeforce on CBS)
UFC 107 Replay - 2.2 million viewers (countered Strikeforce: Miami)

The UFC 107 replay actually had the best ratings of any counter replay product but Strikeforce still drew well for their Showtime event.

Spike is available in 98 million homes.

Yup

Strikeforce Miami beat out Kimbo vs Tank on Showtime for the 2nd spot even though UFC was countering them with UFC 107. That is a definite win for Strikeforce and Showtime.

Does anyone notice that Strikeforce and the WEC’s ratings over the last few events are nearly the same.

by Chris Shanks on Feb 2, 2010 2:40 PM EST reply actions

yeah,

Strikeforce: Evolution barely beat WEC 45 if I remember correctly or they were almost the same

WEC has been hit by the loss of DirecTV

Yes, though Versus is available to about 6 times as many more people as Showtime is.

there is a clear drop off though when versus went black on DirecTV, need to make a graph of that…

And if you ask those people about Versus they’ll look at you with a blank stare on their face, funny thing is before the the Raw and UFC you would get the same reaction about Spike TV.

Carano, lashley, and Walker…SF’s meal ticket

It is not important how many homes it is in. If show was in more homes it doesn’t mean more people will watch it. If you get what I mean But I understand

It doesn’t matter how many homes it’s in?

Are you kidding? The more people that have access the more viewers you get.

by RJ8842 on Feb 2, 2010 3:10 PM EST up reply actions

If thats the case, why does the WEC have higher rated shows than some of the events pre black-out of Direct TV?

You put it in 98 million homes and I am pretty sure you will come out with the same number. People who follow Strikeforce watch it, if you dont then chances are this event did not appear on your radar.

by BobOBuilder on Feb 2, 2010 3:16 PM EST up reply actions

there was a dip in the WEC numbers when they went black on DirecTV. It wasn’t until Faber returned that they got back to pre-blackout numbers

The WEC events that draw good ratings are Uriah Faber events. The higher rated events they have now before the Direct TV feud are only ones with Faber.

As far as the Strikeforce number look at the ratings for the Dec. card that went head to head with the WEC.
Strikeforce won head to head in spite of the fact the channel is in 6 times fewer households.
Are you saying if both events were in equal the number homes the difference in viewers wouldn’t be any different? That’s lunacy.

by RJ8842 on Feb 2, 2010 4:00 PM EST up reply actions

yeah and the last Faber post-DirecTV fight was less than the last Faber card

I think you forget the marketing campaign that came with Faber/Pulver.

Assuncao isnt a name. This shouldnt be surpising. Faber/Pulver was the first WEC ad on SPIKE as well and had its own promo.

by BobOBuilder on Feb 2, 2010 4:14 PM EST up reply actions

You are implying that the the numbers would sky-rocket. They wont.

Theres a reason why the SF numbers hover around the 350k mark without any headlining names. And why they hover around 500k when they have names.

Thats right about their market reach. You add another 100 million viewers and VS will still get similar ratings.

REASON: VS and SF-MMA are not popular to casual audiences.

by BobOBuilder on Feb 2, 2010 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

wasnt trying to imply that they would shoot up into the millions

I think he means the product is the ultimate determining factor rather than being in a ton of homes.

But distribution is important

Product and advertising trump distribution any day of the week when it comes to cable TV/Premium channel shows.

Bob explained my point better than I did lol

One thing stands out to me and that’s the drawing power of Gina Carano. This event had the Walker and Lashley “freak” fights. That should’ve brought in curious sports and wrestling fans. Yet, it didn’t outdraw an event with Carano as the sole attraction.

by Steve W on Feb 2, 2010 6:10 PM EST reply actions

Carano brings us all, under one united banner
