Kryzsztof Soszynski Wins by Controversial TKO (Update)
By all accounts, Krzysztof Soszynski and Stephan Bonnar were having themselves the exact type of fight you expected - an old-fashioned slugfest.
In the third round, Kevin Iole tweeted that blood was pouring out of Bonnar due to an accidental headbutt that went unnoticed by the referee, John Sharp. Evidently, the damage was serious enough to end the fight, with Soszynski being awarded the victory in the first of four fights this evening that have fans speculating about participants futures.
For now, Stephan Bonnar has suffered another loss. I say "for now" because I'm not sure if the result will stand. Chances are Bonnar appeals the decision. Regardless, "The American Psycho" remains in what must be an uncomfortable position.
Fans and media members have wondered aloud about Bonnar's future, and while Dana White has always emphatically stated that Bonnar's future with the company is safe, how many loses can he be allowed to pile up while most other fighters on the roster are subjected to different standards?
Yes, Bonnar was part of the fight that delivered the UFC into the hearts and homes of many who make up the core collection of fans just over five years ago. More recently, however, he was handily beaten by Mark Coleman, a fighter who just two weeks ago was deemed incapable of competing on the UFC stage any longer.
For Soszynski, this is a good win, regardless of the controversy. Last time out, Brandon Vera beat him to the punch and kept him off balance, and this reaffirms him as a solid light heavyweight competitor. Whether the decision remains or not, "The Polish Experiment" should receive a bump up in competition the next time around.
Update: Having watched the fight, it was most definitely a headbutt and it will probably be ruled a No Contest at some point.
