Aussie, Aussie, Aussie: Sotiropoulos Scores Unanimous Decision
The new and improved Joe Stevenson got taken to school, and the lesson was advanced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as taught by George Sotiropoulos.
With scores of 30-27 across the board, the Australian transplant earned the biggest win of his career - and a ridiculous ovation from the crowd - in handing the TUF 2 winner his first loss under Greg Jackson.
Many knew Sotiropoulos was a tough test, but few expected the fight to be as clinical as it was, with Sotiropoulos even taking the better of the exchanges when the fight remained standing. When it hit the ground, school was in session.
The Eddie Bravo 10th Planet student showed smooth transitions and offered submission attempts at every opportunity. While unable to finish the fight, Sotiropoulos certainly served notice to the rest of the lightweight division that he is a serious threat and continuing to improve.
With the win, the TUF 6 contestant moves to 5-0 in the Octagon and sends Joe Stevenson back to the drawing board.
BTW - Stevenson's designs on returning to the title picture just got wiped out.
