Weird Question of the Day: What if MMA divisions were in kilograms?
The UFC's presence in Australia and the subsequent use of kilograms for fighters weight got WKR thinking; what if the divisions in MMA used the metric system as oppose to pounds?
Obviously you can just convert the current weight classes from pounds to kilograms but those numbers are ugly. Do you like the sound the 77.3 kilo division? I didn't think so. People like nice round numbers. For instance no one says top-six, well, except the UFC.
Why are we talking about kilos to begin with? Well, if you deal with a variety of measurements on a daily basis the metric system just makes more sense (we work smarter not harder at WKR). Don't give me the ‘we're American we don't need the metric system' B.S. Why? Because Americans are lazy and thinking in base ten is easier then dealing with this hodgepodge of measurements we call standard. Then again, it would take effort to change so perhaps we are just THAT lazy.
But for arguments sake here are some nice round numbers in kilos for the current seven divisions in MMA (I know its not going to happen nor do I want it to, but I thought it would be interesting to see what it would like)
Bantamweight division - 60 kilograms
Featherweight division - 65 kilograms
Lightweight division - 70 kilograms
Welterweight division - 80 kilograms
Middleweight division - 85 kilograms
Light heavyweight division - 95 kilograms
Heavyweight division - 100-120 kilograms
What are those in pounds? Who cares because they are purty...
