Brock Lesnar in 2009: "I'm gonna murder [Frank Mir]"

Can't these two get along?

A lot has been made of Frank Mir's use of the "d-word" last weekend. Dana White came out and condemned Mir's comments, the UFC released an official statement and Frank apologized. Yet, there is a growing group of fans who are asking, "why is this happening?" After all Mir's statements may be seen as simply a tool to generate hype. Most have pointed to B.J. Penn's own "kill" comments in the lead up to UFC 94 as proof that this is nothing more than pre-fight hype and a double standard.

Well, Brock Lesnar said something very similar about Frank Mir to Maxim.com, except this was in the lead up to UFC 100 (thanks to kreatorofpain for the tip):

Does Frank Mir stand a chance in UFC 100? Did he get lucky in his first fight against Lesnar? Isn't a more experienced Lesnar, who was already bigger and stronger, unstoppable? "I'm gonna murder him," Lesnar says. "I count the days and the nights before I get to do that."

Compare Lesnar's "murder" comments to Mir's "death" comments:

"I want to fight Lesnar. I hate who he is as a person, I want to break his neck in the ring, I want him to be the first person that dies due to Octagon-related injuries."

Which comments are worse?

You could argue that the specificity of what Frank said and the background of athletes dying makes his words hit home in a different manner. Or you could say that this is nothing but P.C. B.S. and everyone is overreacting.

The Mir Thing.

Like, he better pray Lesnar doesn’t actually get injured or he’s dead meat.

Well, he already IS dead meat, but you know.

LESNAR = L00T

He can say anything he wants.

He can talk about murder, piss off a hard-earned sponsor, act like an idiot, tell God to bless Himself, reveal his post-fight conjugal desires, and he will be embraced as part of the family by Dana and the Ferts.

reveal his post-fight conjugal desires

haha..Nice. This is one time (another time) that I wish Dana was not so vocal. He could have reprimanded Mir, told him to apologize, but let Mir decide if he crossed the line. Now it looks like Dana is censoring his fighters – and you’re exaclty right – what the hell is he gonna do to Lesnar if Lesnar says something really stupid? Call him a douche? Nothing.

I really don't give a shit either way

but saying he hopes Brock is the first fatality in the octagon pushes this past the normal “I wanna kill this guy” rhetoric.
