Shane Carwin will Channel your Moral Outrage
(I shall smote these vagabonds for disgracing our fair sport!)
With the MMA blogosphere captivated under siege with "death" talk between Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar, WKR was wondering when Shane Carwin --the guy Mir is actually fighting this March-- would ride in on his white horse and through a little verbal leather around.
Thankfully Shane Carwin spoke to MMABay about Mir's recent "octagon related death" comments:
"I can tell you that ANY athlete wishing death upon a competitor is either a terrible human being or mentally unfit to fight. That type of talk and if it ever happened will take this sport backwards. Frank has been a part of the stone ages of MMA and it makes no sense why he would want or make comments that might damage a lot of the good HE has participated in adding to this sport over the years."
"Brock is a heel in the ring but at home he is a human, husband, father and friend to many. Wishing death or harm upon him doesn't serve any purpose. I will do my best to make Frank's dream of fighting Brock come true, unfortunately for them it will be a three round fight as I plan on winning both of those belts."
This makes Shane Carwin the "hero" of the heavyweight division, right?
Update: Shane would like more direct quotes please:
I have never said Frank Mir was mentally unfit or a terrible human being. What I did say is that if ANY fighter really wishes to kill someone in the Octagon they IN FACT ARE a terrible person. I also stated that I had not heard any of Mir's comments so I was not directing the comment to him. I had been buried in getting my wife through labor and the baby here safely (29 hours of labor).
Carwin also posts the written question and answer as well:
MMABay: Frank has made some controversial statements in the press in recent weeks about wanting to break Lesnar's neck and hoping that he is the first person to die from injuries sustained in the Octagon. How do you feel about those comments, and do you feel that by talking about Lesnar so much in the build up to your fight, that Mir is looking past you?
Shane Carwin: I did not see the interview so I can't comment on what he might have said. I can tell you that ANY Athlete wishing death upon a competitor is either a terrible human being or mentally unfit to fight. That type of talk and if it ever happened will take this sport backwards. Frank has been a part of the stone ages of MMA and it makes no sense why he would want or make comments that might damage a lot of the good HE has participated in adding to this sport over the years.
Brock is a heel in the ring but at home he is a human, husband, father and friend to many. Wishing death or harm upon him doesn't serve any purpose. I will do my best to make Frank's dream of fighting Brock come true, unfortunately for them it will be a three round fight as I plan on winning both of those belts.
WKR quoted his whole response posted on MMABay, which at the time did not include the lead in, "I did not see the interview so I can't comment on what he might have said." MMABay has since updated their site with the first statement.
For Shane, while he said he never saw Frank's interview (in this case it would be heard or read), he certainly understood the theme of it. Why else would he make comments regarding "wishing death upon a competitor"?
In that regard his condemning statement is addressed to anyone making "death" comments. But as the prompt was a question regarding Mir's comments it is easy to conclude that these Shane was responding to Mir's radio interview despite self-admitted lack of details.
In other words, if someone asks you to react to the CEO of Toyota's testimony before Congress, and you say I didn't see it but I think that car companies who put their customers at risk are bad; you are making a moral statement that is construed to be a direct response against Toyota.

Oh please.
If it had at least come from someone who wasn’t about to fight Mir, maybe. MAYBE. And even then. Was the morality police around before Mir said these things? I’m thinkin, NO.
I am not a Mir fan what so ever. Having said that I am torn what I want to happen. I really want him to fight Lesnar again because it will be a huge draw, plus I want to see brock crush him once again. But it is going to be very hard to root for him against Carwin.
Dont know if I could get myself to do so.
this dude’s trying to sound all politically correct,, but behind closed door the man’s probably worse than all of them combined.
It’s an assumption… he hardly or ever has something bad to say or doesn’t say anyting at all and I don’t really buy that. Granted that the comment wasn’t directed to him, but I wonder what if it was? HOw would he respond? Will he turn the cheeck and wait to settle it in the cage? To me, he seems to be holding his tounge and storing all of his emotions and perhaps found ways to cope by displacing them somewhere else i.e. training, mma. Again, it’s an assumption nothing more.
Also, if you look at the pic he’s almost bold, typical for people who stress a lot and hold back what they say. They tend to think before they speak and hold back store a lot of emotions which causes more stress unless it is vented, although there may be other variables that can cause baldness stress is a major contributer.
if your opponent is playing heel
it’s just good showbiz to play face.

carwin is the hero until mir submits him in under 2 minutes.
then mir gets his shot at lesnar and we hear how over-rated carwin was. count on it.
