M-1 says Fedor Fighting in May

Fedor_pong_medium
(Fedor will use the time off to prepare for the 2012 Olympics in table tennis. YOU'RE GOING DOWN CHINA!)

MMA Fighting passes along a statement from M-1 to TV-100 that Fedor will not fight in April and will fight Fabricio Werdum in May.

Two immediate questions come to mind.

  1. Will this place Strikeforce's April event on Showtime instead of CBS?
  2. If Fedor is fighting in May will it be on a CBS card?

The current belief is that no Fedor means Strikeforce's April card will be on Showtime. Jake Shields even hinted at the possibility in an earlier interview. That event has its own question marks as no one is quite sure when or where it will occur.

Some believe that the statement from M-1 means that the "Fedor will fight in Japan" rumors are done. WKR isn't so quick to bury sand on that. Rumors will persist until DREAM makes their announcement or Fedor officially signs on to a fight date.

Finally, the statement regarding Fedor fighting in May opens a whole new can of worms. Will it be on CBS? Where will Strikeforce hold the event? What date will it be on?

It is probably safe to assume that Fedor fighting would probably be on CBS. The location is anyone's guess (San Jose maybe?). The final question shouldn't be to hard to figure out as May is a busy month.

Floyd Maywheather fights Shane Mosley the first weekend of May, with UFC 113 the following weekend. UFC 114 is the last weekend in May and a WWE pay-per view the week before. That leaves the weekend of the 15th as the likely destination.

It should be noted that a fight between Frank Shamrock and Pat Miletich is rumored for May as well.

One thing is for sure. Fedor speculation is the guilty pleasure of MMA.

So that table tennis Olympics thing was a joke? :*(

I'm gonna make a bold prediction here and say Cain "pillowhands" (as some of you have called him) lol Velasquez catches Nog right on the chin and finishes via strikes on the ground. Nog looked good against an old Randy. It didn't show me much. We’ll see.

So this means he'll be fighting Ubereem?

Alistair said he’d be fighting Fedor in May or June, and this fits. I don’t mind waiting another month if we can get someone who’s not Werdum in there with Fedor.
