Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen is for a Middleweight Title Shot
Going into UFC 109 most observers believed that a win for Nate Marquardt would guarantee him a title shot against the winner of Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort, which takes place at UFC 112 this April. Yet no one was positive if Marquardt's opponent, Chael Sonnen, was fighting for a title shot as well.
Dana White put an end to the speculation confirmed that the winner of Marquardt-Sonnen will fight for the middleweight title later this year at the UFC 109 pre-fight press conference earlier today.
White described the situation:
"These guys are two of the top five in the world. Depending on how you look at it -- they deserve it. And Nate's been waiting a while for it."
Not sure when Chael Sonnen became a top-five middleweight. I guess all that trash-talk from Sonnen paid off....

Sonnen beat Okami who was arguably the #2 MW behind Silva for quite some time. That’s got to count for something.
I never said he was the #2 MW. I said he beat the #2 MW. That doesn’t necessarily mean he takes Okami’s ranking but it certainly boosts it. Also, I agree that Marquardt should be ranked above him.
