Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione is a go for UFC 113

Kimbo-mitrione_medium

The rumored fight between fellow TUF season 10 alums, Kimbo Slice and Matt Mitrione, is a go for UFC 113 in Montreal this May.

Dana White confirmed the news earlier today.

The fight was first reported by FiveouncesofPain and then denied by Matt Mitrione on his Facebook account.

Here is what WKR thought of the match-up when it was first reported:

It looks like the UFC is wasting no time in cashing their Kimbo Slice chip. Personally, I thought Zuffa would use Slice as a cable ratings generator, as we have no idea what pay-per view drawing power is but so much for that thought. While some might not think that this is Joe Silva's finest display of matchmaking skills the Slice-Mitrione bout makes sense on a marketing side. Matt Mitrione is never going to be anything spectacular within the heavyweight division plus he doesn't have a ground game so he is a perfect fight for Kimbo. Zuffa is using what capital (if any exists) they generated from TUF 10. The fight definitely has a freak show feel to it. I mean, former porn bouncer vs. former NFL player on pay-per view in Montreal. Someone tell me there will be elephant rides and I am down for it.

Rumored card after the jump.

Star-divide

  • Champ Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua (for light heavyweight title)
  • Paul Daley vs. Josh Koscheck
  • Marcus Davis vs. Jonathan Goulet
  • Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione
  • Alan Belcher vs. Patrick Cote
  • Jeremy Stephens vs. Sam Stout
  • T.J. Grant vs. Johny Hendricks

If Strikeforce or Bellator or Dream were promoting this fight on their main card, blogs and message boards would be on fire calling them a joke and what a travesty this is.

But since it’s Zuffa it’s OK people.

there is some hypocrisy with it but the UFC really worked hard to try and flip the narrative surrounding Kimbo.

If people aren’t mad maybe they succeeded (or people just really hate Mitrione)

the pron company he worked at would go to clubs with a bunch of ladies and film shit. Kimbo’s job was to make sure the actresses and models they paid weren’t fucked with by the bar patrons.

makes sense but it could not possibly be a big production company like vivid.

frank mir was a bouncer at the spearmint rhino gentleman’s club in las vegas until the big money started rolling in.

I think Dana outsmarted everyone

He never said anything that contradicts anything he’s said since he signed him. Nothing at all. He frames his rants specifically to suggest more than what he’s saying to cover that ass.

Example: He said Kimbo sucks, right? Kimbo still sucks, but he hasn’t said he doesn’t. He said he’s been impressed with his improvement and that now he’s really dedicated himself.

No contradiction. I’ve only seen him point out the positives in Kimbo instead of pointing out the negatives. Promoter 101
