Melvin Guillard Ruins Ronys Torres Debut

Who Dat? Who Dat? Who Dat didn't pick Melvin Guillard?

Actually a lot of people, as many observers thought that Guillard's --a New Orleans native-- pension for being submitted made him the perfect opponent for Ronys Torres; a jiu-jitsu fighter who was making his UFC debut.

Guillard was able to avoid Torres submission attempts and shrug off several takedowns on way to an unanimous decision victory. Guillard was able to win two rounds with superior striking while he lost one round to Torres' superior position.

This marked Guillard's first fight since joining Greg Jackson's camp and it showed as Guillard was in great shape, patient and technical in his defense.

The fight was marred with unintentional comedy as a member of of Torres' corner dropped a bag of ice onto the canvas causing a brief delay and a rain of boos.
