Demian Maia Receives an Unplanned Vacation (Update)
The Nevada State Athletic Commission handed down their medical suspensions and Demian Maia is going to have some time to work on that novel he has been kicking around:
Demian Maia is suspended until Aug. 6 unless he has his left vertical upper eyelid laceration cleared by an ophthalmologist or an ocular-plastics doctor.
You can see the "left vertical upper eyelid laceration" in the above picture.
Demian Maia's victory over Dan Miller marked the first time Maia was able to beat an opponent on his feet. Granted, it wasn't the most technical showing (Joe Rogan described the fight as an "amateur kickboxing fight.") but it shows that Maia is striving to become a more well-rounded fighter. He might want to work on some head movement though...
In other massive laceration news, Chael Sonnen, who suffered a nasty cut from Nate Marquardt's elbow, is only suspended until March 9th.

Update: According to Kevin Iole Maia was medically cleared to fight.
