It's Official: Kalib Starnes in the Main Event of AFC 2

As first mentioned a couple weeks back, website namesake Kalib Starnes will be returning to action in his home province of British Columbia.

Returning to the cage at Armageddon Fighting Championships second event, the Surrey, B.C. native will be looking to rebound from a loss to current Bellator Middleweight champion Hector Lombard. He'll be stepping into the cage against Marcus Hicks, who will be looking to rebound from a defeat this past weekend at Agression MMA's second show in Edmonton.

Full press release after the jump.

Victoria's Armageddon Fighting Championships Return with Second Cage Fighting Event

Victoria, B.C. - After the smashing success of AFC 1: The Big Bang in August 2009, Victoria-based mixed martial arts promotion Armageddon Fighting Championships (AFC) is set to make their return to the Bear Mountain Arena on March 6 with AFC 2: Aftershock.

In the main event, British Columbia's own five-time UFC competitor Kalib Starnes (9-4-1) will face off with "The Loudmouth Assassin" Marcus Hicks (10-16-0).

Starnes, a contestant on the third season of the UFC's reality TV program The Ultimate Fighter, holds victories over fellow former UFC fighter Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald and the original Ultimate Fighter bad boy Chris "The Crippler" Leben. The Surrey native was most recently defeated by former Olympian and current Bellator Middleweight champ Hector Lombard.

Nanaimo's Nick Hinchliffe (13-5-0) and Maple Ridge's Dan MacIver (6-0-0) will renew acquaintances in the co-main event. The two met in October 2008 with MacIver maintaining his undefeated record via second round submission due to strikes, and has stopped all six of his opponents to date.

The event will also feature the mixed martial arts debut of Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive end Justin Shaw. An intriguing mix of size and athleticism, Shaw played with the Bombers last season. Now, the former Manitoba Bison and Canada West All-Star will bring that same combination of speed and strength into the cage against fellow newcomer Nathan Williamsen.

Also appearing on the card are UFC 4 veteran Jason Fairn, Xtreme Couture's Phil Friedman, and  Top 10 ranked Canadian featherweight Diego Wilson, as well as local fighters Derek Medler, Nick Driedger, Karl Bergen, Josh Spong, Jimmy Phan, Connor Wood, and Tristan Connelly. 15 fights in total are scheduled.

Weigh-ins take place Friday March 5th at 5:00pm at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel and are open to the media.

Tickets are available at Juan de Fuca Rec Centre, Island MMA, Sports Traders, Full Metal Jacket Racing in Duncan and online at www.armageddonfc.com or by calling (250) 478-8384.

Tickets range from $25-$150

Is this the guy who the Website is named after? I always wondered. Where did watch kalib run come from, and also, if he is Canadian, how come it says this website is for people who live in OHio ? A bit confused sorry.

haha, that’s cool. I started the website after the Kalib Starnes incident so that is who it is named after.

The Ohio part came when we joined SBN and we didn’t want to rebrand so yeah. A bit confusing

Kalib (a Canadian) was fighting Nate Quarry at UFC 83. That was the first time the UFC had gone to Canada for an event.

Starnes simply refused to fight in rounds 2 and 3 and was simply on “his bike”, aka running away, for the rest of the fight. It culminated with Nate Quarry mocking Starnes at the end of the fight.
