Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

And Marcus Davis just took it too far...

Picture_2_medium

Not too much to say about this, other than Davis really, really needs to get over that loss to Hardy.

How long before Dana and Zuffa come out and swat this down? If they don't after what they did with Mir then it sets up an interesting precedent.

Update: MMA Junkie posts Davis' manager reaction to the tweet:

"I've known Marcus a long time, and I've never heard him say anything like that," Cavallaro said. "Marcus has four kids. That's not something he would go around saying. I know he wants to fight Dan, but I don't think he'd say anything like that."

Davis deleted the tweet (too bad WKR still has it...) and posted this comment:

WKR likes to refrain from the outraged moral wagging of the finger. After all this is entertainment and should be entertaining. But photoshoped joke pictures are not the equivalent of slowly dying due to AIDS. It's an ugly and undignified death. WKR should know as we've witnessed it.

Update #2: Zak didn't want to delve into his personal experiences dealing with AIDS patients but Beth from Gal's Guide to MMA took a full swing at the issue and WKR couldn't agree more:

Does Davis really think that "gay photos" are worse than wishing AIDS on someone?  I worked as a therapist at AIDS Project Los Angeles, where I provided counseling to people with AIDS and their families.  Let me tell you, there isn't much else that's worse in this world than dying of AIDS.  It is an extremely undignified death that involves pain, anger, depression, and social stigma.  The medication that people with AIDS have to take becomes a full time job.  And that's just for those lucky enough to have medication work on them.  People who contract a drug resistant form of the disease don't even have the option of taking the medication.  They get to deal with wasting away very quickly with no hope of help unless new drugs happen to be developed that can help them.

How can he say that photos are worse?  Because they last for life?  Give me a friggin' break.  The photos are obviously photoshopped and only a mental midget wouldn't realize that.  But oh no!  They are gay photos on top of that.  Well sweet Jesus, that should give him the right to fire bomb Hardy's house.  I mean of all of the horrific things you could do to someone, photoshopping (badly) them at a gay pride parade must certainly be the worst.

Update #3: Dan Hardy responds to Fighter's Only:

"Yeah I saw [the AIDS tweet]. I laughed. I think he needs to chill out a bit. I think more than anything it is Davis getting to Davis now. I think he needs to see it for what it was and just chill out a bit. It was all meant in good humor, I didn’t say anything malicious or do anything malicious. It was all funny stuff, like the photoshops and the plastic paddy thing. It was just like a back and forward you’d get between mates in our gym any day of the week."

BLAH! BLAH! BLAH!

I don’t want to rush to judgment, but I do understand the significance and the differences of both and not to be a devil’s advocate here, but Marcus is right. Those pics, which I haven’t seen, will be up for LIFE or as long as the internet exist. The same could be said about those words as it’s going to to perhaps spread like teenage gossip through the MMA community.

I frankly, don’t care we’ve all at some point wished something upon someone and it seems like marcus is doing the same as he is still bent out of shape about his loss that could’ve gone either way. The loss wasn’t as desicive as when he fought saunders, so I could understand there’s still some animosity toawards him and perhaps vice versa especially after those pic.

WKR would you be so kind to put those pics up in order to make a fair comparison. Thank you very much.

pretty sure we posted them at the time and no one thought of them as a great moral sin or assualt against Marcus other than Marcus.

Where is this

I’ve search in the site, but could not find it. I can’t comment on it, but there’s a difference in perspective and some may not have found it offensive while perhaps others may have (the gay community) just like I don’t find his current comment offensive, but others may have. Let’s stop the GENERALIZATION…

I’d rather him die of a horrible staph infection myself, but that’s just me.

I used to get into the trash talk

and go to bat for my favorite fighters, but the more I read/listen I’ve realized a lot of the shit talk is either hype or just stupidity and I can (and do) laugh at most if not all of it. Mir saying he wants to kill Lesnar in the cage was almost certainly hype (I hope so for Mir’s families sake), but Marcus Davis… that’s just stupidity. I understand MMA fighters and athletes in general more often than not are not the smartest, most well educated, nuanced individuals around, but c’mon. The sad thing is Davis feels like he is completely justified. All because Hardy got some kids to photoshop MD in semi-questionable poses…

All I have to say is unsuccessful counter-troll is unsuccessful.

. . . I’m surprised this story is getting light. This sounds like high school crap.
Yeah, it is just stupidity. The fighters that get worked up over these statements kind of surprise me.

its what happened with Mir that makes this a larger story.

plus the homophobic nature of “apology” (which would get play in any sport)

and my personal experiences with AIDS patients

I loved Mir’s non-apology. He knows the deal and the hypocrisy. After all it’s just trash talk. But I’m not going to lie many fighters have crossed the line beyond regular harmless trash talk.

“punch my opponent’s nose bone up into his brain to kill him” – Mike Tyson
“I want your heart! I want to eat his children! Praise be to Allah” -M. Tyson
“I want Brock to be the first fighter to die in the cage” – Frank Mir
“I hope Hardy dies of AIDS” – Marcus Davis

In Mir’s defense, he’s a “true” martial artist, role model. He’s also known as a stalker.
In Mike Tyson’s defense, I don’t think a sane sanctioning body of psychiatrist would ever clear him to enter the squared circle.
In Davis’ defense, he’s just emotionally immature.

BJ Penn’s “to the death” is obviously just trash talk.

I lol'd

the biggest hypocrasy of Mir’s statement was how he belittled Lesnar for his post UFC 100 actions and called him bad for the sport and then says he wants to kill him, imo

but I might have misunderstood what you meant by hypocrisy
