The M-1/Strikeforce Co-Promotion Issue is actually with CBS?
Dave Meltzer had this little gem of information about the behind-the-scenes dispute between Strikeforce and M-1.
Shockingly, the problem might not be between these two entities but rather CBS and M-1:
CBS promoted the November show more as "CBS Saturday Night Fights" as opposed to promoting the Strikeforce or M-1 Global brand names. "For us, this is a really big deal," Kogan said. "We’re concerned about our brand. For us, it’s an important piece of the big picture."
It's hard not to read that statement and think "M-1 wants their cut from the CBS pie" rather than just having the tagline "CBS brings you Saturday Night fights by Strikeforce and M-1 Global". Wow, that's a mouthful.

from a marketing to casual sports fans perspective
Saturday Night Fights on CBS is pretty much a best case scenario. Don’t confuse people!

although I wanted to see Fedor fighting on this next card
I can see there point . I was wondering last time why strikeforce wasnt in the title anywhere. That is something the UFC would never allow. These are probably some of the sticking points of why the ufc does not have a network deal yet.
^this^
Additionally,
CBS + Fedor + Strikeforce + M1 = …
This is literally trying to mix things that do not mix well and hopinh people will like the taste…
Corp America + Small Business + Communism Ideals + One Mans Legacy =
Christopher Reeves
CBS is promoting MMA on CBS. Whether its SF, ELITEXC, or the next org to come along.
SF is the one benefitting anyhow no matter how you look at it. They should keep their traps shut.
Strikeforce isn’t complaining, M-1 is. M-1 Global are parasites in the MMA world. They latch on to entity and suck money out of it without giving them anything in return except an overrated pudgy Russian fighter, who they whore out for their own gain.
If it was just Strikeforce on CBS, it’d be alright. Coker seems like a reasonable fellow. They just got in bed with some real scumbags and it’s going to sink the whole thing,
I know. I caught some last week at a bar. I still believe the MMA world would be better off without them.
Then again, I’m for a 100% Zuffa controlled sport so the best fighters are all under one roof. But, that’s a debate for another time. :)
100% Zuffa controlled sport
see, when you say that do you mean a top-tier NFL or a MLB that controls AAA, AA and A?

I got zero knowledge of how football or baseball is run. I’ve never even watched either sport. You’ll have to elaborate.
like do you want the UFC to be the only League like the NFL (sorry CFL) or do you want the UFC to be like the English Premiere League where there are lots of soccer leagues but one that everyone knows is the best as it has the best talent and produces the most money.
Or would you want it to be like MLB where they own all the minor promotions who slowly funnel in talent.

Any of the above would work. I just don’t want to see it like boxing with Top Rank and Golden Boy constantly cockblocking the fights fans want to see.
chris benoit fan
I can’t believe you’re quoting dave “chris benoit fan” meltzer. What you have there isn’t even a scoop. It’s just chris benoit fan’s opinion.
From my reading, m-1 global wants EE to do more to make it known to zuffa zombie bloggers like meltzer that m-1 co-promotes the shows. Their problem is with dave meltzer.
Listen guys, when dave meltzer isn’t idolizing chris benoit, he’s telling people the ufc brand is more important than the sport itself. Hence yahoo’s deplorable coverage of MMA. Zuffa zombies want to punish fedor because he stood up for fighter’s rights. They punish him by making his company, m-1 global, look irrelevant. That’s what zuffa zombies do. That’s what meltzer does.
Come on man! Quote Eddie Goldman. Quote somebody that knows something.
Much as I hate to agree with the shady Ruskies, I can see their point here… the Fight Night shows on Spike aren’t advertised as “Spike’s Fight Night”, it’s “UFC Fight Night… on Spike”. The promoter is emphasized first and way more than the channel, as it should be.
For both M-1 and Strikeforce’s sake, it should be something like “Strikeforce/M-1 on CBS”, rather than “CBS Saturday Night Fights” with Strikeforce/M-1 in little letters. The title “Saturday Night Fights” is a CBS name that’s been used for boxing for years, and steals the emphasis from the promoter.
M-1 may be a bunch of shady assholes, but this is a valid point that benefits both them and Strikeforce.
You forget who holds the cards in this situation.
SF sold their sould, bent over backwards, and swallowed the load in order to be on CBS.
CBS can air re-runs of their hit shows at no-cost and get better ratings
