Around SBN: Full Coverage Of New York's Victory Celebration

Evening Matchmaking Wrap Up

(UFC 112 got a name and will now be called 'Invincible', like the movie...)

  • WEC 48 Adds Chan Sung Jung vs. Cub Swanson, Tyler Toner vs. Brandon Visher
  • Brad Pickett vs. newcomer Demetrious Johnson official for WEC 48 prelims
  • Bantamweights Takeya Mizugaki and Rani Yahya meet at WEC 48 in April
  • Anthony Pettis vs. Alex Karalexis in the works for WEC 48 event
  • DREAM 13: Yoshiro Maeda vs Cole Escovedo announced for March 22
  • Jeremy Horn vs Jake Rosholt on tap for KOTC event in Detroit, MI on April 16
  • Ray Mercer v. Ron Sparks At King of the Cage
  • A Freakshow Fight Worth Booking: Kickboxing Legend Jerome Le Banner vs Tim Sylvia - Bloody Elbow
Okay, it isn't real but worth a smile

  • A few quick thoughts on some of the fights.

    - Love the Horn vs. Rosholt match-up. Jake is still working towards getting another shot at the UFC. Rosholt was cut from the promotion after two surprising submission losses. Now Jake will face off against journeyman and submission expert Jeremy Horn, which will be a great way to show off his improved submission defense. However, another loss would be a serious set back.

    - Maeda vs. Escovedo is a great middle-tier bantamweight fight and a nice addition for DREAM.13

    - Ray Mercer is, well, he's Ray Mercer.

    - Really excited about MIzugaki vs. Yahya. Both fighters really needs a win to stay in the top-ten at 135 which has suddenly become a rapidly changing division.

    - Also, if it wasn't already obvious the WEC is throwing almost all of their eggs in the WEC 48 basket. The promotion will have their top bantamweights and Jamie Varner in reserve for WEC 49 but outside of that it seems that every fighter of note is being dropped on that card. Definitely makes it worth the money but is the brand powerful enough to pull in the audience?

Interesting that Rosholt was cut after losing to Grove even though he beat Leben the fight before. I don’t really get why they didn’t give him one more fight after that. Seems like a promising fighter.

Roster room, perhaps they wanted him to have more time to develop
