Cage Cast 77: The Rumor Mill Edition

Urban-legend-rumor_medium

This episode of Cage Cast begins with WKR taking a few minutes to talk about the Pacquiao-Clottey fight before diving into the big rumor of the weekend--Chuck Liddell vs. Rich Franklin.

Dana White publicly denied the rumor but that was after several reports stated that something happened to Tito Ortiz --the widely believed current opponent for Liddell and rival coach on The Ultimate Fighter 11-- and that the UFC tapped Franklin to replace Ortiz. One report had the Franklin-Liddell match-up as the counter to Strikeforce's CBS card while another had it penciled in for UFC 115 this June. The rumors ended when Dana White tweeted that Franklin is actually fighting Randy Couture. It should be noted that when there is smoke there is usually fire and with so many reports something has to be happening behind the scenes.

But the Franklin-Liddell rumor taps into another story, the reported UFC counter to Strikeforce. There has yet to be a fight announcement for the card and the UFC is running out of time to officially book a date. Is this just a bluff from Zuffa? WKR discusses all the possibilities in a wild rumor rodeo. Sorry, that's dumb imagery.

It would be great if women gossiped about MMA like that...

I’m glad UFC isn’t countering, they have enough events going on. No need to throw together some half-ass show that won’t do much damage. I’m a UFC fan first, but will not be turning away from that Strikeforce event on CBS, Swick/Serra would not have swayed me either.
Also of the three main SF fights, I’m interested in Melendez/Aoki first, as mentioned this is a battle of two of the best LWs outside the UFC. Winner eventually fights Eddie Alvarez, eh?? Next is Mousasi/King Mo, huge Mousasi fan, something about him staring blankly into the camera, then destroying dudes is entertaining to me. Last is Shields/Henderson both are amazing fighters, but I dunno doesn’t make me go crazy…
