Gray Maynard wants to fight the winner of Florian-Gomi
Gray Maynard took to Twitter to declare his desire, nay, his right, to fight the winner of Kenny Florian vs. Takanori Gomi, which takes place later this month.
On the surface this makes complete sense. Maynard is on most observer's short list to contend for the lightweight title after Frankie Edgar loses fights B.J. Penn. Thus it stands to reason that Maynard should fight the winner of a top-tier lightweight bout though it may fly in the face of Gray's earlier comments about being in no rush for a title shot. If Maynard were to win a potential fight with the winner Gomi-Florian there is no other option but to have "The Bully" as the number one contender. WKR isn't quite sure how going from an unimpressive showing against Nate Diaz to fighting in a number one contender bout is exactly taking it slow.
That doesn't mean that WKR doesn't like the idea, well, at least if Florian is the winner. If Gomi wins we think the UFC has to cash in on their Japanese investment and match Takanori up with B.J. Penn in Hawaii of course. After all, Gomi might go bat-shit crazy again and lose to a nobody in the opening round of a tournament entitled "Road to Gomi"...
Update: Gray Maynard told MMA Junkie that he wants to fight a name opponent and that Sean Sherk wouldn't fight him.
