What happened to Jorge Masvidal?

(Where's Jorge?)

Yesterday Bellator announced the draw for their second lightweight tournament but one name was conspicuously absent, Jorge Masvidal.

In January it was reported that Masvidal would be a participant in the 155lbs. tournament and would likely face Toby Imada in a highly anticipated rematch. Imada won their first meeting with an impressive come from behind, inverted triangle submission victory, which would later earn Toby "Submission of the Year" honors. Jorge told MMA Fighting that he was looking to "repay the favor" and that he would "[win] breaking jaw of the year" in his upcoming rematch.

Now Imada is fighting Ferrid Kheder and Masvidal isn't even in the tournament. There were no reports that Jorge wasn't signed nor that he was released from his contract, and this Tuesday members of the Sherdog Radio Network were discussing Jorge has a potential participant in the tourney. What happened?

Two things happened. First, Masvidal lost a split decision to Luis Palomino (12-5) at G-Force 3--a bout that Jorge described as a "tune up fight". Second, Bellator signed Roger Huerta

Surely the lost to Palomino affected Jorge's status, yet a rematch with Imada would have been one of the most anticipated fights of Bellator's second season. Perhaps the signing of Huerta (and his rumored $250,000 signing bonus) made Bellator think twice before throwing a solid lightweight into a tournament where most observers believe Roger is the favorite to win.

I train with jorge down in Miami. Imadas managers told Jorges that he didnt want to give jorge his rematch in order to compete in the tournament.Jorge didnt want to fight in a tournament because there is a possibility that he would not fight Imada. So he might fight in Japan and then let Imada recover so that he can get his rematch. As for palomino, that was a BS call by the referees. I never knew you can get rocked and controlled but still win due to little leg kicks. By the way Baboon denied jorge his rematch because he knows that this time jorge would not have Imada on his mind so jorge would not care about breaking his fist on baboons face. since the imada fight was scheduled for a month later.

you don't know a thing about MMA so stop frontin

you can see the baboon x masvidal fight on youtube and see how masvidals molasses slow punches were getting slipped as if baboon was mayweather and how he won every exchange masvidal is rumored to be quitting quiting mma after that fight cuz he realised he couldn’t even beat a “C” fighter like palomino he’s never beat a quality opponent in their prime yves edwards was washed up when he knocked him out he needs to go to japan where there is less competition cuz mma in miami is too tuff for him BABOON HAPPENED TO MASVIDAL even tho masvidal tried to duck the fight by not makin weight nmasvidal was 8 pounds over and still lost so educate yourself b4 u go makin hollow comments on the net yer boyfriend lost to baboon and he was 8 pounds overweight face it he doesn’t even deserve a rematch imagine how he would get dummied weighing the same as palomino don’t flatter yourselves Masvidal was always an overated brawler he’ll nver make the next level he’s fought the same since he started with out any real bettering of his game PERIOD
