That was Duane "Bang" Ludwig's ankle, which suffered a "Maisonneuve fracture" defined as:

A fracture of the medial malleolus of the ankle with disruption of the tibiofibular syndesmosis. The resulting injury is a fracture of the proximal third of the fibula.

For those that don't understand complicated medical jargon allow WKR to translate, *ahem*, "Holy f***ing s***! That dude's ankle bone and shin bone just blew up inside his skin!"

Ludwig will have three pins inserted in surgery to set the bone. One will be removed after the bone heels.
