UFC Stadium Construction in Abu Dhabi Update

Golden Shovels for Everyone!

The last time we heard a progress report about Abu Dhabi's construction of an outdoor stadium for UFC 112, the site was a pile gravel and sand.

On the UFC 112 conference call, Zuffa officials informed the media that construction began--on Sunday!

They broke ground on the arena for UFC 112 on Sunday. They don't expect any issues because of the size of the event, nor do they expect security issues because of the show being outdoors.

If WKR's math is right --which it usually isn't-- that's twenty days of construction, right? Seems like they are cutting this mighty thin.

At the very least, Abu Dhabi should be able to make a pretty sweet commercial out of this whole thing:

"Do you need an outdoor stadium that seats 10,000 in twenty days or less?! Well, then come on down to Abu Dhabi where our imported indentured servants, slaves, labor force will whip you up a standing coliseum in no time at all!

I’ve been to the UAE while in the Navy and they’ve built all kinds of shit and besides having an assload of money they also have easy access to near slave labor. The docks have huge barracks built for workers from india, pakistan etc etc and since they are paid cheap they can hire in great numbers. Don’t get me wrong it is surprising that they are starting this late but I don’t think it will be an issue.

No doubt

Dubai will be outsourcing some of their “labor pool”.

They've done temporary arenas in boxing before

Caesars Palace had a temporary arena built a while back and it was proposed for Mayweather/Pacquiao as well (which of course didn’t happen). With cheap labor and materials they can put together a pretty decent arena in the matter of a month, so yeah, this isn’t without precedent exactly.
