UFC Takes Drastic Actions in Wake of Georges St. Pierre's Boring Performance
The UFC has decided to make drastic changes in the wake of angry complaints from fans at UFC 111.
The largest MMA promotion on the planet will implement a new set of rules to satisfy their fans desire for more finishes and less decision.
"It's simple really. People want to see 'action' and knockouts and we are going to give it to them", said Marc Ratner to WKR. Ratner drew comparisons to the NFL when explaining why the UFC had decided to reward fighters who have the grappling skills of a seal out of water. "It's simple really. The NFL has implemented all these rules to help the offenses score more points to satisfy fantasy players and that's exactly what we are going to do with the UFC."
Zuffa will now implement a 20 second "grappling clock" that will time fighters on the canvas. If the fighter is in any position, whether it be north south, side control or mount and the clock sounds the fight will be stood up and the fighter that took the action to the canvas will be automatically deducted a point for "borifying" the fight. The UFC will also implement new rules to stand fighters up immediately if they are in guard or half guard. Finally, fighters will be limited to two shots (either single leg or double) per round. If a fighter attempts an extra shot they will be deducted a point.
When WKR asked UFC president Dana White about how these changes would affect grapplers like Demian Maia and wrestlers like Phil Davis, White responded bluntly, "It's simple. If you want to fight in the UFC you got to f*** people up."
When pressed about elbows to downed opponents and whether or not those were horrific enough, White responded that he loves the cuts, blood and gore but fans really prefer to see fighters twitch unconscious on the canvass after a knockout. Thus the promotion will do everything within their power to increase the rate of KO's.
The rule changes won't simply focus on grappling but are also designed to improve the damage of punches to increase the volume of KO's. Fighters will now be able to place rolls of nickels in their fists (quarters are too larger for the athletic commissions to sanction) to increase the chance that a punch renders brain damage to their opponent.
Finally the UFC will implement a new "sudden death" rule for fights that enter the third round. As fans hate decisions Zuffa will drop either a lead pipe, wrench, candlestick, knife, rope or a revolver into the cage in the final round for fighters to use as they see fit. The goal is to insure that no fight ever has to go to the judges score cards. Colonel Mustard will also be the UFC's new "go to" judge.
Certainly the UFC is entering a brave new world in combat sports and fans are excited about the new prospects for their pound of flesh.
If you haven't figured it out yet this is satire.

Well played, sir

that sounds like the Gary Shaw school of MMA.
If Russia attacked Turkey from the rear, Do you think Greece would help?
if you have a guy down with 4 min’s in a round 4-5 times….he should look like he was in a fight. Period. I’m not knocking grappling or takedowns or wrestling or BJJ. I"m knocking having a guy on the bottom who admittedly is not a ground wizard…and him hardly looking like he was in a damn fight after 25 minutes of fighting.
GSP battered Alves…and spent more time standing with him.
GSP hardly put it on Hardy. i have nothing against takedowns and dominating top control….but it should be done to FIGHT to hurt to damage your opponent or potentially submit him (the sub attempts were good)…therest of GSP on top was not. Ala Rashad laying on Thiago Silva for the better part of 3 rounds.
Gatti. Dekkers. Pele. Aoki. Kang. Vanderlei. Basillio. Harry Greb.

what about when Penn fought GSP at UFC 58
GSP looked much worse than BJ at the end of the night but still won. Sherk had a towel wrapped around his head after his fight with Florian.
Just because a guy might do more damage doesnt always mean he wins, which to me is what makes MMA interesting. It sounds like you would be more in favor of awarding fights based on damage done, which is unfortunately unquantifiable.

Awesome!
If people out there couldn’t appreciate the art and mastery GSP displayed on Saturday night, then they really aren’t true fight fans.
People who live for the KO in MMA are the same people who only watch NASCAR for the big wrecks and think Survivor is really real.

Yeah and if I wasnt on the edge of my seat for the Fitch fight I must not be a “TRUE” mma fan either huh?
Shut up and realize people are not knocking GSPs skills, but are looking to be entertained. It wasnt the most exciting fight and thats what people were expecting. It was the same thing over and over each round. Takedown followed by failed submission.

That’s what’s wrong with UFC fans as opposed to MMA fans.
They want to be “entertained”. Like, Brock-Lesnar-breaking-someone entertained.
Le sigh.

Yeah seriously
Because when I watch football, I am looking for tough defenses and a grind-em out games with the score of 13-6. I hate it that the NFL imposed new rules to open up passing lanes and protect QBs.
I guess thats the difference between NFL fans and Football fans.
They want to be “entertained”. Like Brett-Farve-touchdowns entertainment.
Le sigh.

I dont see why fans cant be restless and a performance can’t be simultaneously boring and dominant. If this sport is going to grow, there are going to be moments like these where aesthetic beauty is sacrificed for complete dominance. If a fighter like GSP wishes to fight like this, he should not be above criticism
Winning by positioning and transitions doesnt count as any less of a win, but I shouldnt be obligated to pretend like Im as engaged with it as I am to more dynamic fights.
Thats fair
but only 2 of them were close to finishing the fight, that leaves alot of other time where George wasnt throwing strikes. I also think that a submission after the 3rd round would have been less satisfying than one earlier. A really gratifying submission comes swiftly and relatively decisively, if George got one in that fight it would have been because his opponent was fatigued and frustrated.
Kind of like working for a submission in the UFC video game, you can often get one if you just transition all over your opponent and spam submission attempts, eventually he will be too tired to fight you off. Its not a tenth as gratifying as locking up the first sub you attempt, leaving your opponent confused and angry that its already over.
I'd like to see GSP twist your arm like he did Hardy's..
And then see you call it a “failed” submission.
If you can’t be “entertained” by the mastery of St. Pierre’s wrestling and take down ability and can’t be “entertained” by Dan Hardy’s toughness… Then I don’t know what to tell you.

Entertainment and appreciation are two different things.
Look it up buddy.
Fans want a decisive finish, instead we got GSP grapple-raping Hardy for 5 rounds while doing little to no physical damage. He tried to finish, but he failed. It wasn’t the most exciting fight. GSP admits this, why dont you?

I thought it was pretty exciting or maybe It was pretty exciting for a recent GSP fight`
Hardy was actually much better off his back than I gave him credit for you noticed when GSP started to posture up hardy started shrimping and even got the transition on Georges a time or two, that’s the reason he wasn’t able to work his ground n pound as much was not the lack of GSP trying just Hardy was stronger off his back than we all thought. If I were Hardy I would write a nice long letter to Matt Sera thanking him for the condition my face is in. I also thought this fight was more entertaining than the Alves fight of course I was fucking hammered during the Alves fight and don’t remember much of it.
