Nationwide Arena to use modified seating
On today's episode of Cage Cast WKR mentioned our curiosity on how well WEC 47 will draw at Nationwide Arena. With the Arnold Sports Festival bringing in thousands of fitness enthusiasts into Columbus could the WEC break through the 10,000 mark?
Alas, no. Nationwide Arena will use a modified seating for WEC 47 maxing out the possible attendance at 8,500. MMA Junkie points out that if WEC hits that mark the show would be in their top-five gates. That is certainly good news but Nationwide has a capacity of over 18,000 thus a 8,500 sellout is only 47% of capacity, which makes WKR sad.
Come on Ohio, come out and watch the fights!

when i was at the cerrone/ratcliff fights.
in the preliminary rounds the most expensive seats in 50% of the octagon were only half full. we were in the balcony at the pearl at the palms and i think it’s the best view because the four camerman get in the way when you are at octagon level. in the balcony you can see down at an angle so they don’t bother you as much. believe it or not the pearl at the palms no matter what they say only holds around 2200 for ufc and wec events. people were jaded for awhile for a few years b/c so many events were held in las vegas. that is why they wouid only show up for the top 2 or 3 fights. they don’t come to ohio that often so i think they can get 10,000 people and i’ll bet the wec will fill those high priced seats near the octagon even if they have to comped or lower the price for them.
I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. I was building a house, I don't deserve this, deserves have nothing to do with it. Bang. "Unforgiven" I drink your milkshake. I drink it up! "There Will BE Blood"

Another reason for merging the UFC and WEC promotions
Zuffa dropped the ball in ohio. Why take one of the highest grossing sites and put on a show that only fills half the capacity of the location. A UFN show would have drawn a larger crowd. This is the reason why Zuffa should combine UFC and WEC.
A UFN/WEC hybrid card would be great for all parties. Zuffa gets to advertise it with the UFC brand and hopefully sells out the location because everybody loves the UFC. The WEC fighters get to fight on a UFC card with hopes of getting a larger fight night bonus and better pay days.
The fans get to see the best fights in a wide range of weight classes. Imagine a card featuring Jones vs Vera with a co-main event featuring Bowles vs Cruz or better yet a imagine the Aldo vs Faber ppv with the co-main event featuring Akiyama vs Silva. Now that’s a ppv worth paying for.
I plan on writing a fan post bout the benefits of combining the UFC and WEC in a much larger article later. I just hope I’m not overlooking the obvious with this idea.
