Josh Barnett: It Wasn't Me! It Was the One Armed Man!
Josh Barnett was recently a guest on Inside MMA (video after the jump) and the newly signed DREAM heavyweight fighter defended himself against the perception that he was to blame for Affliction folding.
"In terms of Tom's accusation that I am the one, you know they had plenty of back up fights, and that happens. And I've never seen any fight card, in fact, Kevin Randleman slipped on pipes 15 minutes before going into the ring...I'm the most convenient excuse because if they really want to know why they didn't run any more fights, they should go check into their accounting and everything else. You know they had a lot of counsel from people with experience, wink, wink trying to help them sett these things up. budget them correctly put together proper contracts proper connections and they didn't listen. straight up. they spent way more than they earned. I am not to blame for Affliction folding as much as he wants to say right there, he is just trying to look for a good out. If Affliction 3 would went on that would've been the end of it anyways. There was not going to be an Affliction 4."
Clearly, Barnett's third positive test was the catalyst of destruction for Affliction: Trilogy but he is probably right when it comes to Affliction's long term viability.
The one real victim are the fans as we didn't get to see Fedor vs. Barnett but Josh has something to say about that.
"I have people beating my door down to fight Fedor. It's only a manner of time."
Goody gum drops.
