Cesar Gracie has some words for you "Crybabies"
MMA Junkie spoke to Cesar Gracie and the renowned trainer had some pretty far out comments:
"I told them that this distracts from the real fights," he said. "It doesn't help anybody. Nobody's getting paid for fighting after the fight. It makes crybabies come out there and talk about it more, and then we have to do interviews talking about crybabies."
Immediately after Saturday's event, fans lit up Internet message boards in outrage over the incident.
Gracie said the "crybabies" are part of a double standard between MMA and other sports.
Always a good start when you respond to criticism by name calling. If WKR may be so bold as to offer a retort? "I' rubber and you're glue whatever"... all hell on to the next quote.
"I went to a hockey game, a (San Jose) Sharks game last week; there were three fights where the teams were fighting each other," he said. "That was at a hockey game where there are supposed to be no fights.
Has Cesar been to a hockey game before? Fights break out all the time and the mainstream media always bemoan them despite the fact that die hard hockey fans love them. Besides, hockey fights are usually between two guys not 1 on 5 and the hockey players are wearing pads.
"So a fight broke out at a fight. That's not a good thing, and I'm not condoning it ... but a lot of people are jumping on this because they're babies. The same night, they had an NBA fight. They want to talk about a fight at an MMA fight between MMA fighters."
And Kevin Garnett was suspended by NBA commissioner David Stern and the Celtics coach did not call people cry babies. Sounds like that wasn't a big deal either, right?
Gracie disagreed with fans and pundits who said the incident could turn public perception against MMA.
"How would it be damaging?" he said. "If you're a sports fan, you're used to seeing fights all the time. It's really, seriously, a bunch of pussies latching on to this and trying to make it a bigger deal than it is. Is it a good thing? It's not a good thing. We're sorry. Everybody involved has apologized.
Wait a minute. Cesar asked how it would be damaging then followed that by saying it wasn't a good thing. Those comments are contradictory and he also call people who objected to the brawl "pussies", which if anyone did that to a Gracie fighter it would probably warrant a date at the flagpole after school.
"But you've got a lot of crybabies that are going to latch on to this to the bitter end, but they're not going to say anything when a hockey game has fights every night. Young sport, old sport - people are making a much bigger deal than this. It's hype; it's all hype."
And there it is, the word, "hype". That might be the first accurate thing Cesar said though his conclusion was completely wrong
You know what another word for hype is? Marketing, which is all about affecting people's perceptions. when the mainstream perception of MMA is "ultimate fighting" and you have a 5 on 1 brawl with two fighters who have been apart of a previous brawl it tends to reinforce the negative opinions people have. That's bad hype and if no publicity is bad publicity at least it's the kind that doesn't bring in top dollar sponsorship so Nick won't have to throw his sponsor shirt off in disgust.
